Beatitudes Part 3
Notes
Transcript
1. If you heard somebody say, “I’m so blessed,” but did not know any other information, what
would you assume they had recently experienced?
2. How have you experienced non-Christians using parts of the Sermon on the Mount to
evaluate the authenticity of Christians?
3. The Beatitudes run counter to what we would typically think. Which of these contrasts most
grabbed your attention?
Matthew 5:10 – Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake. Fot theirs is the
kingdom of heaven
1 Peter 3:14 - But even if you suffer for doing what is right, God will reward you for it. So, don't worry
or be afraid of their threats."
2 groups of Beatitudes
Holy Emptiness (poor in Spirit, mourning, meekness) leading to hunger for righteousness will be fill
Holy Fullness (Mercy, pure heart, make peace) leading to persecution for righteousness
Righteousness – on account of righteousness / on account of Jesus – Same thing!
This raises a question: if that is what righteousness means — being merciful and pure and peaceable by
relying on Jesus and living for his glory — why would anybody persecute that? It does not seem very
offensive.
Two things – The love of something evil or untrue / the desire to justify it – You cannot serve to Gods
What are some examples today that conflict with each other?
