Let's Build Together--Circle of Service
(GO HERE! https://forms.gle/bz1WPWJXFmXFKGdWA )
I am thinking about BCAY this Summer: let’s build together.
At the Black Church at Yale, our mission is to Love God, Love People and Serve the Nations.
We aim to love God fully, love people courageously and humbly, and serve the nations wherever we are. (Luke 10:27; Luke 22:24–27; Matthew 5:13, 16; Matthew 28:18–20)
Our desire for ourselves and others is that we may enjoy God’s peace, walk in God’s power, and live God’s purpose for us (live our purpose in Christ).
This is our mission and vision.
Throughout this Summer, it is my dream/hope that together we will worship, pray, learn, fellowship, and love and serve one another and others. I understand that the good news is that as God transforms us from the inside out, we become better—better disciples of Christ, better image-bearers of God on earth, AND we will be brighter lights drawing people to Jesus. And the life that Jesus has for us and others is the life to live, to go all out in. Jesus said, John 10:10 (NKJV)
“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have [it] more abundantly.
Well, if we are going to live our mission to love God fully, love people courageously and serve the nations wherever we are, then we’ll need to partner with each other. We need your partnership. It’s all hands on deck.
Is there a better there is no better time to start than this Summer. While the pandemic has a dark effect on many things and many lives, let’s brighten our BCAY community and our lives with the Light of Christ, and even-so spread God-filledinfused hope to others.
I personally love the ideas you gave for how BCAY may serve others this Summer. The Core Team in BCAY loves your ideas. In broad summary, you said let us love the elderly, those experiencing poverty and homelessness, essential workers and students through a diversity of activities such as writing notes, calling, mailing gifts, delivering necessities, sharing virtual words of affirmation, praying/taking prayer requests and more.
Let’s do it. Let’s serve others, and simultaneously let’s strengthen our own walk and life in Christ.
Here is what we need to do:
--transfer our physical BCAY Family Room experience and space into our “online Family Room” (using the Faithlife platform)
--coordinate and execute our collective service to the people we named to love on in light of COVID-19
--coordinate our times in scripture—our biblical learning experiences, conversations, and topic “modules” for June and July (to help us look and live more like Christ at home, on campus, and in our jobs!)
--organize our bonding experiences and fun
--steward our finances and shape a financial vision for BCAY
Here is what we need from you:
--online hosts, moderators, and hospitality
--communications and social media support
--care team and member services support
--accounting and financial management support
--online audio, video, recording, and livestream crew
--Gospel-centered creativity in content creation, publication and curation
--musical worship team
--Community service coordinators and organizing (logistics of summer of service)
--Organize BCAY Intergenerational faith conversations/interactions
Right now, would you please take a few minutes to let me know what area(s) most stands out to you, that you would be willing to “try on and wear” for June? Here is a link to let me know. Please indicate all that interests you, and we can talk from there. It would be great to have us together in teams where we could collectively learn, explore, and share responsibility for a given area.
