Genesis 6:8 KJV 1900
But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.
Being Different
INTRODUCTION:
Noah was a man with differences. He was different from everyone else in his day and generation.
I. NOAH WAS DIFFERENT FROM EVERYONE ELSE IN HIS HEART
There was a great heart difference. (The thinks and the way his mind process the outside world.)
"Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord."
In the heart of Noah there was a great difference, for instead of sin reigning, grace reigned.
Colossians 3:2 KJV 1900
Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
Many people desire and allow the flesh to control and dictate their actions.
But there those, very few who desire to please God and allow His Spirit to lead them.
II. NOAH WAS DIFFERENT IN HIS STANDING
He was a justified man.
The whole world stood condemned before God.
How was he justified?
Romans 5:1 KJV 1900
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
Hebrews 10:38 KJV 1900
Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
"By faith Noah..." He was justified by a living faith in the living God. He was different in his standing.
III. NOAH WAS DIFFERENT IN HIS CHARACTER
We read that he was "perfect in his generations"
Genesis 6:9 KJV 1900
These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.
Imputed righteousness in the heart finds its expression in implicit righteousness outwardly.
IV. HE WAS DIFFERENT IN HIS WALK
I read in Genesis, chapter 6 and verse 9, "Noah walked with God."
The whole world was out of step with God. But, praise God, he is a man walking with God! Noah was in the minority. He stood alone; he walked with God.
V. HE WAS DIFFERENT IN HIS VISION
Mark that work in Hebrews 11: he saw "things not seen as yet." The whole world lived and worked for material things. But Noah's eyes were on things above, not on things beneath.
VI. AND THEN HE WAS DIFFERENT IN HIS MOTIVES
We read that he was "moved with fear" (Heb. 11:7), and he "prepared an ark to the saving of his house." "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom" (Ps. 111:10), and in Noah's day there was no fear of God before the eyes of the people. But here in a world where men didn't fear God, is a man standing that his motives were different from the motives of the men and women that lived and witnessed around him.
VII. HE WAS DIFFERENT IN HIS OCCUPATIONS
He "prepared an ark to the saving of his house" (Hebrews 11:7). We need fathers who will live to "prepare an ark to the saving of their house," to get their household saved by the grace of God.
