In this Psalm we have a contrast. Human life is contrasted with God’s mercy. The life of a person is brief, the mercy of God lasts forever.
The point of this section is to highlight the foolishness of choosing to live this life without seeking the mercy of God.
Man’s Days are fleeting
Man is like grass-
Then David explains in what way man is like grass
As a flower of the field he flourishes. He gets wealth, and knowledge and prestige.
For the wind passes over it and it is gone. Then all of a sudden death comes to him and he is no longer
And its place remembers it no more. Eventually he is forgotten and life goes on without him.
This is a depressing
God’s mercy is everlasting
