At Rest

As you prepare to hear from God:
Tell your lungs to breathe
Tell your heart to beat
Rejoice you dont have to worry about either because God set it up that way :)
Psalm 131 ESV
A Song of Ascents. Of David. 1 O Lord, my heart is not lifted up; my eyes are not raised too high; I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me. 2 But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me. 3 O Israel, hope in the Lord from this time forth and forevermore.
When you go to sleep your lungs breathe and your heart beats and you dont waste one thought or ounce of energy to make those things happen! God’s plan for life is incredible. It is detailed. It is specific. It should put us at rest.
Imagine the weaned child from Psalm 131. This is a child who has grown past the agitation and fussiness of going to his mother for milk. This child climbs up in her lap to be at rest. To receive the comfort her arms offer. This child will soon drift off to sleep knowing the security his mother’s lap gives.
Does my soul rest like this? Have I placed such utter confidence in my Jesus I can rest in the comfort of His presence? Does the Holy Spirit so envelope me with security I fear nothing?
Our culture seems to be full of fear. It seems to be a commodity bought and sold in every conversation. It’s time to wean off that. It is time to move on to the confidence and security of faith in God who created a detailed plan and called it good.
The weaned child is not fearful he will not eat again. He just eats differently than he did as a baby.
The hope of every believer is the Lord. It is the Lord’s protection, provision and plan. When I place my confidence in His, rather than my own, I too am at rest.
