3. not even Christ suited his own pleasure. See Phil 2:6–8 (but suffered death for all, even death on a cross); 2 Cor 8:9. Christ’s giving of his life was motivated by his love for human beings (8:32–35). Love, then, should motivate Christians to please others and to contribute to the upbuilding of all. Life in the body of Christ means that Christians must learn to “bear one another’s burdens” (Gal 6:2). Cf. 1 Cor 11:1 (“Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ”).
