A Quick Look Back

(Apologize for the word hogwash)
As we dive into scripture today, I want to recap what we have learned thus far from chapter 10 and 11:1-8.
A most powerful heavenly host has visited Daniel . This Heavenly Host was so righteous that Daniels travel companion ran away in fear and hid in a bush. which to digress for a moment reminds me of
Genesis 3:8 NASB95
8 They heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.

A Quick Look Back

The bible does not name this Heavenly Host, King of all angels, But I am convinced that He is Jesus.
The HH give Daniel a message that we are currently working through,
So far (up to 11:8) we have seen that the prophecy as it were has all come to true, with 100% accuracy.
As we continue reading today, I want you all to think about how active God is all the time. How much work He does on our behalf, all for His Glory, as we repent to glorify Him.
Daniel 11:9–10 NASB95
9 “Then the latter will enter the realm of the king of the South, but will return to his own land. 10 “His sons will mobilize and assemble a multitude of great forces; and one of them will keep on coming and overflow and pass through, that he may again wage war up to his very fortress.
After Seleucus II (the king of the north) died, his son Antiochus III led troops against egypt, and won the war that extended all the way to Gaza, this happened because Ptolemy IV (the king of the south) was for lack of better words, lazy. He was more focused on living lavishly than protecting his kingdom.
Daniel 11:11–12 NASB95
11 “The king of the South will be enraged and go forth and fight with the king of the North. Then the latter will raise a great multitude, but that multitude will be given into the hand of the former. 12 “When the multitude is carried away, his heart will be lifted up, and he will cause tens of thousands to fall; yet he will not prevail.
Ptolemy IV was quickened from his indolence before his entire kingdom was destroyed by Antiochus’s forces. Enraged at the north for their victory at Gaza, ptolemy assembled a huge army to meet the Syrian army on the battle field in 217 B.C. When the battle was over, almost all of the northern troops from Antiochus forces were either dead, injured or scattered. Even Antiochus himself fled.
After this a treaty was forged between the north and the south
Daniel 11:13–14 NASB95
13 “For the king of the North will again raise a greater multitude than the former, and after an interval of some years he will press on with a great army and much equipment. 14 “Now in those times many will rise up against the king of the South; the violent ones among your people will also lift themselves up in order to fulfill the vision, but they will fall down.
Two years after Ptolemy IV died, 203 BC Antiochus III built another large army. And as this prophecy proclaims, The north invaded the south starting in Egypt. Ptolemy the V was only about 4 years old, leaving a vacuum of power in the south, this allowed Antiochus to win over many of the people of the south, including Philip of Macedon, A number of Jews, and a group of bandits from Egypt. this is thought to be the fulfillment of vs 14.
Daniel 11:15–16 NASB95
15 “Then the king of the North will come, cast up a siege ramp and capture a well-fortified city; and the forces of the South will not stand their ground, not even their choicest troops, for there will be no strength to make a stand. 16 “But he who comes against him will do as he pleases, and no one will be able to withstand him; he will also stay for a time in the Beautiful Land, with destruction in his hand.
The Fortified City spoken about here in prophecy aligns perfectly with the events that took place at Sidon when Antiochus iii forced the Egyptian army leader, Scopas to surrender in Sidon, which was known as the most fenced city.
Following this victory, Antiochus ruled un-opposed in the region and was free to do what he wanted. Part of his desire was to exploit the jews which is prophesied in Daniel chapter 8 and 9. This sets the tone for the some what domicle acceptance Israel had to the roman rule, As they were being exploited by Antiochus the III, but I dont want to be a spoiler for this next scritpure
Daniel 11:17–19 NASB95
17 “He will set his face to come with the power of his whole kingdom, bringing with him a proposal of peace which he will put into effect; he will also give him the daughter of women to ruin it. But she will not take a stand for him or be on his side. 18 “Then he will turn his face to the coastlands and capture many. But a commander will put a stop to his scorn against him; moreover, he will repay him for his scorn. 19 “So he will turn his face toward the fortresses of his own land, but he will stumble and fall and be found no more.
Around the same time of Antiochus III victory, Rome started to intimidate Antiochus and his kingdom. so he became determined (set his face) on getting Egypt on his side. His plan was to ruin his Egyptian opposition by giving his daughter, Cleopatra, to Ptolemy V for a wife. Antiochus’ plan failed when Cleopatra turn coat and sided with Ptolemy.
Antiochus’ reign began to fail as prophesied as he moved toward the coastal isle of the mediterranean Sea. The Roman general Lucius Scipio Asiaticus ( the commander) Met the northern king’s forces and defeated them several times in Greece. Antiochus fled back to Syria and was killed during a rebellion by his own men.
Daniel 11:20 NASB95
20 “Then in his place one will arise who will send an oppressor through the Jewel of his kingdom; yet within a few days he will be shattered, though not in anger nor in battle.
Seleucus IV took the throne at the death of his father Antiochus in 187 B.C. He bowed before Rome as he paid tribute, in order to make the payment he had to excessively tax the Jews. Seleucus Iv placed Heliodorous in charge of collecting the tax, Heliodorous is suspected to be the person responsible for poisoning Seleucus IV, which completes the last part of prophecy for today as scripture says The king would be shattered within a few days, not in anger not in battle.

Conclusion

It is no surprise that this biblical prophecy was 100% accurate as the author is the creator of the universe. Our lord and Our savior Jesus Christ. As we follow the prophecy we are getting closer to the coming of Jesus. We will see that all these events leading up to Christ are of so much importance as this is the Marvelous work of God to align event to occur even when men have free will. This exults the glory power, wisdom and might of God, That He would labor in such a way to give unruly sinners a path to redemption and a relationship with Him, so that we might not come to know His wrath rather witness it as it will be poured out on all unrepentant souls.
