Pour out My Spirit 2020

intro
Happy Birthday Church
Today is Pentecost Sunday, the Birth of the Church
you ‘re sure looking good for 1990 years old
Today is a day we celebrate the the coming of Holy Spirit and subsequent birthing of the Church.
As Pentecostals our focus is generally where it should be.
on the personal and workings of Holy Spirit
but I believe sometimes we error by only focusing on the baptism of the Holy Spirit
and not on why the Holy Spirit baptizes us in the first place.
No don;t get me wrong the Baptism of Holy Spirit is very important for the believer.
But its not good enough to just leave it at that.
Holy Spirit does not baptize you to make you feel something extraordinary, or to simply give you real cool gifts.
Acts 1:8 NASB95
but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”

The primary purpose of the baptism of the Holy Spirit is to receive Power to be Jesus’s witnesses

The Greek dunamis is used 120 times in the New Testament.
Loosely, the word refers to “strength, power, or ability.”
It is the root word of our English words dynamite, dynamo and dynamic.
So let’s get one thing straight. When you are baptized in the Holy Spirit your life will be shaken up!
If things continue as normal without change you really need to question if you were actually filled with Holy Spirit!
So the obvious question that should be asked is

How do I get filled with the Holy Spirit?

When you receive Jesus as your savior the Holy Spirit comes and dwells within you
Romans 8:9 NASB95
However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.
1 Corinthians 3:16 NASB95
Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
However, there is a distinction between dwelling and infilling
Believe
Hebrews 11:1 NASB95
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
2. Ask
Luke 11:13 NASB95
“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?”
3. Receive
Matthew 7:7–8 NASB95
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. “For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

Once I get filled with Holy Spirit what’s next?

Be continually filled.
Its not a one time thing
Here are 3 practical ways that will help you stay continually filled with Holy Spirit:

1. Every day make the decision to walk in obedience to God.

Scripture tells us
Acts 5:32 NASB95
“And we are witnesses of these things; and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey Him.”
Jesus said,
Luke 9:23 NASB95
And He was saying to them all, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.
This is an attitude of the heart.
John 14:15 NASB95
“If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
We have the daily opportunity to offer our lives to God as
Romans 12:1 NASB95
Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.
—it is our authentic expression of worship.

2. When you get up in the morning and later throughout your day,

make it a daily habit to ask the Father to fill you afresh with Holy Spirit.
If we need to drink plenty of water on a daily basis to be healthy, how much more should we drink of Holy Spirit by asking him to fill us so we can stay spiritually sharp and healthy?
So, in faith ask the Father to fill you, and by faith receive that infilling.
Matthew 7:7 NASB95
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

Never forget the reason for the infilling

3. Continually focus your eyes on the vision of a great revival and harvest.

Keeping yourself focused on the big picture gives you a holy dissatisfaction with the status quo.
It helps me stay hungry for the more that God has for us.
Matthew 5:6 NASB95
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
Acts 1:8 NASB95
but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”
Receive & develop your spiritual gifts
Romans 12:6–8 NASB95
Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith; if service, in his serving; or he who teaches, in his teaching; or he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.
1 Corinthians 12:8–10 NASB95
For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues.
1 Peter 4:11 NASB95
Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
