Welcome back to our devotions through the gospel of John. I hope last time as we covered what it means to worship in spirit and truth it was a help to you.
As we look at the passage today I would ask you to search your own heart and really weigh it against scripture. This is important because we are supposed to allow God to change us and this happens through the washing of His Word.

We should crave the things of God as much or more than we do food.

As the disciples asked Christ to eat he explained the spiritual food they did not understand. It is important for us not to miss the spiritual food he is explaining. We should crave the things of God as much as we crave food when we are hungry. Much like we have to have food as Saints or people who have accepted Christ should crave scripture, and God’s Word. It is of the uttmost importance that we crave the things of God.
Do you crave the things of God?
Sure you are listening to this devo but do you crave more, does it put you in a state that you want to know more about God and the things of God?

We should listen to the urgency Christ gives over souls ready to reach

As Christ gives the example of the harvest field he is drawing the thought that we only have a limited time to reach people for Christ. When we hunger for Gods word we also learn how to hunger for souls to come to know Christ. They go hand in hand. However we must learn to pursue people for christ with the urgency of a farmer trying to save his crop.

The increase is not dependent on us but upon God.

Finally we must learn that sowing and reaping is determined by God and not ourselves. This should encourage you because it shows Gods power is not dependent on you being perfect. God works through men and women that are willing, not men and women that are perfect. This should encourage you because it shows Gods ability to work in-spite of our downfalls. This is not an excuse however to not improve in our walks with God, nor is it an excuse to not study his word to have an answer. It is also not an excuse for us to cause an un-needed offense. In the words of Paul “I am all things to all people” meaning we are to be spirit lead and allow God to lead us and shape us to reach the people he has put before us.
