1 Corinthians 12

As you may be excited about, I am sure we all know that this coming Sunday is Pentecost. The celebration of the Spirit of God descending u[on the disciples. I am sure you all have you red outfits picked out for the occasion too. Pentecost Is not something we get excited about anymore really. The power of the Spirit of God I think is somewhat frightening to us. For so many of us the idea that we are not in control of something is scary. We say all the right words about wanting Jesus to take the wheel or to be led by the Spirit, but there is something very hard to overcome when the idea of allowing the Spirit to work comes to ahead. Because ultimately we have to give up control.
But as we read here from Corinthians this morning we find the Spirit is God’s gift to us. What we see is that the gifts of the Spirit are as diverse as we are. The Spirit is given to aid us in the participation of God’s greater God. We are all gifted by the Spirit.
As humans we have great abilities. We have accomplished great feats through our own wisdom our own effort. But as humans as finite beings we do indeed have a ceiling to the heights we may go. The Spirit who searches the Spirit who knows the mind of God gives light to the Spirit-filled believer, fills him or her with the higher wisdom of God, also known as sophia. The are things that con on;y be revealed by the Spirit of God, and it is the desire of God that we may truly discover our dependence on on him for the higher wisdom he has to offer.
Now the amazing thing we can learn here is God, while he is all powerful and is all energy, we can know He his working toward a greater end. The gifts given by God are part of the personal power of God. God’s gifts work through many manifestations. The same Father God works thorugh all of us as we all have a piece a share of God’s very own personality. Though we are alldifferent and bring different personalitlye s and gifts to the game, it is the same Lord working through all of usas one body.
