Where does your confidence lie?

Confidence in the Calling of God

Galatians 1:1–5 ESV
1 Paul, an apostle—not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead— 2 and all the brothers who are with me, To the churches of Galatia: 3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, 4 who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, 5 to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Paul’s declaration:
Apostleship is not from men
Apostleship is from Jesus Christ
Why is this important where his apostleship comes from?
300 (Persian Emissary) -I am the emissary to the ruler of all the world, the God of Gods, King of Kings, and by that authority I demand that someone show me your commander!
Who your backing is makes all the difference
Paul’s not claiming to have been trained to speak a lingo
Paul’s not claiming to have sat in a bunch of meetings and declared himself or by anyone else to teach the Gospel
Galatians 1:12 ESV
12 For I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ.
Paul’s conversion - road to Damascus (Dive deeper into this in a couple of weeks)
Paul ensures that his calling is from God, his confidence is in Christ
There is a calling on your life as Disciple as well:
Acts 1:8 ESV
8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
3 imperatives that occur:
Receive power
Holy Spirit will come upon you
You will be a witness
Power (Dunames - strength, power, ability) comes from the Holy Spirit…to do what? Be a witness of the Gospel
The confidence we have is in God to give us the ability to do the work He gave us
For His GLORY!!!!

Equipped by God

If our confidence is in God, He will equip us to do the work
this is why Paul was adamant about where his authority came from
Hebrews 13:20–21 ESV
20 Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, 21 equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
Philippians 1:6 ESV
6 And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
What does this mean?
The God that calls you to be His disciple and witness, will equip you for the work He has for you!
Our confidence rests then on the finished work of Christ!
Galatians 1:4–5 ESV
4 who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, 5 to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Paul’s confidence rests on Christ as should ours
Because He is worthy of all glory, all honor, and all praise
STOP
Reading Galatians 1:1-5, why is Paul’s confidence and his authority rooted in Christ?
How do you have authority in Christ? In an honest look at yourself, where does your confidence lie? Why does confidence in anything other than Christ fail?
Read Hebrews 13:20-21 & Philippians 1:8, if God has called you does He equip you to do what He has called you to? How so?
Where have you lacked in trusting that God has equipped you for the calling He has placed on your life?
