Fellowship

We often talk about fellowship. What is it?
There are 4 words that are translated ‘fellowship’ in the New Testament
Ephesians 5:11 NKJV
And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.
Enhanced Strong’s Lexicon 4790 συγκοινωνέω

4790 συγκοινωνέω [sugkoinoneo /soong·koy·no·neh·o/] v. From 4862 and 2841; TDNT 3:797; TDNTA 447; GK 5170; Three occurrences; AV translates as “have fellowship with” once, “communicate with” once, and “be partaker of” once. 1 to become a partaker together with others, or to have fellowship with a thing.

Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament based on Semantic Domains 34.4 συγκοινωνέω

34.4 συγκοινωνέω: to be associated in some joint activity, with the implication, in some contexts, of a somewhat enduring relation—‘to participate with, to be in partnership with, to associate with.’ μὴ συγκοινωνεῖτε τοῖς ἔργοις τοῖς ἀκάρποις τοῦ σκότους ‘do not associate with people who do worthless things that belong to darkness’ Eph 5:11.

2 Corinthians 6:14 NKJV
Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?
Enhanced Strong’s Lexicon 3352 μετοχή

3352 μετοχή [metoche /met·okh·ay/] n f. From 3348; TDNT 2:830; TDNTA 286; GK 3580; AV translates as “fellowship” once. 1 a sharing, communion, fellowship.

Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament based on Semantic Domains 34.7 μετοχή, ῆς

34.7 μετοχή, ῆς f: a relationship involving shared purposes and activity—‘partnership, sharing.’ τίς γὰρ μετοχὴ δικαιοσύνῃ καὶ ἀνομίᾳ; ‘how can there be a partnership between right and wrong?’ 2 Cor 6:14. In 2 Cor 6:14 δικαιοσύνη and ἀνομία refer to ‘those who do right’ and ‘those who do wrong.’ In fact, in a number of languages one can only translate this expression in 2 Cor 6:14 as ‘how can a person who does right and one who does wrong join in a partnership?’ or ‘how can one who does right and one who does wrong work together?’ In this same verse κοινωνία (see 34.5) has a meaning closely corresponding to μετοχή, and similarly φῶς and σκότος refer respectively to ‘those who live in the light’ and ‘those who live in darkness,’ paralleling closely the distinction between δικαιοσύνη and ἀνομία.

1 Corinthians 10:20 NKJV

34.6 κοινωνός, οῦ m; συγκοινωνόςa, οῦ m: one who participates with another in some enterprise or matter of joint concern—‘partner, associate, one who joins in with.’

Then if you look up koinonia you get the list we have before us.
Koinionia is translated into 4 different words.
After looking at the passages and the words, what does fellowship mean to us?
What do we have in common?
What do we share in?
Example of fellowship – Adam and God, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Moses, David – they communicated with God, they were partakers in the plan of God
Jesus has restored fellowship with God in an even deeper way. He has also restored our relationships with one another.
Eph 2:19, 1 Tim 3:15 We are the household of God
Gal 6:10 household of faith
1 Peter 2:10 now the people of God
1 Peter 1:5 being built up as a spiritual household
Eph 2:21 the whole building being fitted together grows into a holy temple in the Lord
How should we view it? What should fellowship look like among believers?
