Sunday we dealt with Focus = Facts
I believe that God will supply all of our needs
We must stay focused on the main attraction!
We must abide and delight..
I just want to pick up from Sunday…
Matthew 6:19–21 ESV
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Jesus makes a command “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth.”
This has nothing to do with you having nice things! Please understand this…
The Pharisees were overly concerned about acquiring material things. - Expensive clothes and grain in storehouses
Jesus taught that there were benefits of a proper attitude toward wealth.
“Lay Up” - To keep, hoard, lay up as treasure. We are dealing with emotional attachment and desire.
“On earth”
“Where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal.”
Do not be married to your material things.
“But” - The contrast between Earthly and Heavenly”
“Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven.” - How do you lay up treasures in heaven?
By investing and giving to others!
Luke 12:32–33 ESV
“Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys.
Luke 14:13–14 ESV
But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.”
Luke 6:38 ESV
give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”
The treasures are whatever rewards God will give for deeds of kindness on earth
Here it refers especially to the use of material wealth to help meet the needs of other people, whether spiritual or physical
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Jesus teaches a great deal about money because he knows that the way we use it signals where our heart is—that is, what we worship.
It is the seat of a person’s thoughts and desires [BSC]. The heart is the very center of a person’s life [NTC].
Matthew 6:22–23 ESV
“The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
Statement - “The eye is the lamp of the body”
The eye is that organ which allows light into the body [EBC, McN, NAC, NIBC, NTC, Pl, TH], and therefore the critical organ for illumination and direction
Also a person’s outlook will determine the ethical or moral condition of his life
The eye is like a window that lets light into the body [CEV].
A generous spirit enables a person to morally healthy, whereas a mean spirit blinds him to what is important
“If your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness.”
Having a good eye is parallel to storing up treasure in heaven, and having a bad eye is parallel to storing up treasure on earth, so it refers to how a person’s heart condition is expressed through generosity

Matthew 6:24 ESV
“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
No one can serve two masters!
