What is Pentecost?

Acts 2:1–2 MEV
1 When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like a mighty rushing wind came from heaven, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.
The day of pentecost remembers the day the God sent the comforter and helper to us.
We remember this day because of the power and difference that the presence of the Holy Spirit makes when He comes on the scene.
Pentecost:
the Christian festival celebrating the descent of the Holy Spirit on the disciples of Jesus after His ascension, held on the seventh Sunday after Easter.
the Jewish festival of Shavuoth, which is a major Jewish festival held on the 6th (and usually the 7th) of Sivan, 50 days after the second day of Passover. It was originally a harvest festival, but now also commemorates the giving of the Law(the Torah).
Pentecost has been associated with a denomination or a church for so long that the meaning behind it has been diluted.
Just like most other things in society, when we hear it so much and not practice the meaning, we loose what it’s all about.
Pentecost was a festival and usually a festival is put in place because of something very significant has happened or taken place.
On the day of pentecost, they were all together in ONE mind and ONE accord.
They were all praying and waiting with anticipation for the coming promise, the power, the comforter, the councilor the one that Jesus said was coming!
The group started out with over 500 in attendance!
What do you think happened to the others that left?
Yeah, probably life was happening and they had more important things to attend too.
Or maybe they thought when Jesus said to wait, that it would take a couple of hours or a day, but not 10 days for the promise to come.
But those that stayed and tarried are the ones that received.
You know, sometimes you may have to tarry!
Your answers do not always come in an instant.
Pentecost is a time that we live in now of the Holy Spirit.
He dwells on this earth and in us and without Him, how hard would it be to live in this sinful world that we live in?
Pentecostal!
That’s what we are!
We believe in the Holy Spirit and the need for Him on our lives and that He speaks to us through others and through the Word of God.
Let Him work in and through you today!
It’s not all about the speaking in tongues gift!
He is so much more than that!

Who Is Pentecost For?

Acts 2:17–18 MEV
17 ‘In the last days it shall be,’ says God, ‘that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. 18 Even on My menservants and maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy.
Pentecost is not just for the Acts people.
It is for us all!
These verses point out that The Holy Spirit is for ALL!
If you know Jesus as your personal savior, then you can know the Holy Spirit.
These verses also show that the gifts from the Holy Spirit are not just tongues.
You have prophesy, visions, and dreams just in these verses.
We sometimes get caught up in the tongues and forget that we do not worship the tongues, we worship Jesus who sent the Holy Spirit who gives us the git of tongues along with other gifts.
The time of pentecost was sent for all who desire a closer walk with the Lord.
He is for those that have a call on their life and a need of help from the Spirit.
Are you in need of a comforter this morning?
Are you in need of a councilor?
Are you in need of a power source?
Are you in need of words to say?
He can give these things to you in your time of need!
There are no age requirements only a relationship with Jesus.
Who has received the baptism of the Holy Spirit?
Look around and see that their are all ages in this room and experiences with Jesus as well.
Acts is not a book of fairy tales of things that were fictitious.
Tell the story of the pastor that told me that Acts was a “back-then” book.
God is real, Jesus is real and the Holy Spirit is real and are very relevant for today!

What Does It Mean For Me?

All these things that are predicted to happen in the last days could not happen in just one day…right?
This is why we are said to be living in the last “days”
2 Timothy 3 MEV
1 Know this: In the last days perilous times will come. 2 Men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 without natural affection, trucebreakers, slanderers, unrestrained, fierce, despisers of those who are good, 4 traitors, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness, but denying its power. Turn away from such people. 6 Those of this nature creep into houses and captivate silly women who are burdened with sins and led away with various desires, 7 always learning, but never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. 8 Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so these also resist the truth, men of corrupt minds and worthless concerning the faith. 9 But they shall proceed no further, for their folly will be revealed to everyone, as theirs also was. 10 But you have observed my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, tolerance, love, patience, 11 persecutions, and afflictions, which came to me at Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra—what persecutions I endured! But the Lord delivered me out of them all. 12 Yes, and all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. 13 But evil men and seducers will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But continue in the things that you have learned and have been assured of, knowing those from whom you have learned them, 15 and that since childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise unto salvation through the faith that is in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
We must have the Holy Spirit of Pentecost in order to make it through these last days.
The enemy know that his days are numbered and will fight hard.
2 Timothy 3:13 MEV
13 But evil men and seducers will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.
This is an indication that it’s going to get worse before it gets better.
We must seek after the infilling of the Holy Spirit in these last days.
We can go back and read the accounts of those who sought after God hour after hour; day after day; even year after year for a move of the Spirit in their lives.
It may not come over night, but Joy comes in the morning, even though we may endure the darkness.
The description of the last days sounds so familiar and looks so much like what we deal with and live in today!
What are you waiting for?
Pentecost is for everyone and applies to everyone.
The times that we live in now have been labeled pentecost which brings us to what happens next and that is the next step...
The return of Christ to take His bride home!
Are you going or do you need to make things right with Jesus?

Alter

What does your life look like this morning?
Do you have a life that exemplifies Christ?
Do you live a life that is right in the middle of the path that God has laid out for you?
Christ said that we are to live perfect, Holy as He was holy!
How you ask?
Allow Christ to rule and reign in your life!
Let Him take control and guide you through the Holy Spirit!
Do you need a relationship with Christ today?
Maybe you have drifted away and are not sure if you are ready to go when He comes back for us.
Maybe you have done some things in your life that have caused you to have doubts as to wether you would qualify to go to heaven.
Jesus is the only way to heaven because He died for you.
Do you need to renew your relationship with Christ today?
Are you in a place that you know that you are ready to go, but just want more of God in your life?
Your prayer this morning is to fill me up Lord to overflowing.
Do you want more of God in your life?
Do you need the power that comes from having the Holy Spirit in your life.
Let Him come in and take over your life so that you can withstand the attacks of the enemy!
Do want to be filled with the Holy Spirit?
