Intro:

The word love is used in a variety of ways. Our concept of love carries a viewpoint based on the upbringing and circumstances we have experienced. We have been hurt, lie to, and to some we have based our concept of love on the gifts and things given to us.
We often base the love of God on these concepts. God loves you! He wants you to receive His love, develop His love, and give His love.

1. God’s love is to be received.

God’s love must be received by us. You must accept that God does love you. You can’t get around it. God has a deep longing for you.
Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
a. When you receive His love, it enables you to become a son or a daughter of God.
1Jn 3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
Joh 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
b. Jesus Christ is the physical expression of His love. The personification of God’s love towards us.
Heb 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

2. God’s love is to be developed.

Once God’s love is received it must be developed. When the love of God is received, it changes you. God’s love is not just a feeling. You don’t start off feeling love for everybody. It doesn’t just happen.
Deu 6:5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
Lev 19:18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself: I am the LORD.
a. We are commanded to love. That means we have a choice. To develop the love of God in your life you must choose to love.
b. You develop in the love of God by keeping His word.
1Jn 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

3. God’s love is to be given.

You received the love of God and then you grow in developing the love of God in your life and now you have come to the place of giving it to others.
Mat 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
a. We are to give the love God has given to us.
b. We are commanded to love therefore it is a choice.
c. The more you give the more it is developed and the more you receive.

Conclusion:

To receive God’s love and become sons and daughters of God is to believe on the name of Jesus Christ and make Him Lord of your life.
