A Supernatural Flag Day
We seem to celebrate everything in our country. Of course we have the major holidays, Christmas or Thanksgiving. Then there are the lesser known days where we observe something special. For instance, for some reason, June 1 is National Olive Day and National Heimlich Maneuver Day. June has a few holidays, Father’s Day and Flag Day. I have always honored my dad in June, but it is not oft that I think about Flag Day. The idea to have a day to honor our flag originated in the late 1800s. It became an official holiday in 1916. But what is so special about a flag? When the United States fought the Revolutionary War, they united under a flag as they marched into battle. Flags are also known as standards. There are moments in our walk with God where the enemy of our souls comes to attack. Satan can cause us to question our future, our identity, or our standing with God. In those moments, “when the enemy comes in like a flood” we can call on God. When we begin to praise our King and pray for His protection and guidance, the Holy Spirit gets involved. It is then that the “Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him.” The standard or flag of heaven does not have stars or stripes. Instead, it has a banner over us that declares God’s love. God raises a flag of supernatural protection over us. Then when the enemy comes to attack, he sees the the royal standard of heaven he realizes, the God of angels armies is on the side of His people. I do not know how the flag of heaven looks, but I know in the time of trouble, we can call on God and He will come to our aid. Every time we praise, worship, pray, or call on God,
there is an awareness, what the enemy meant for evil, God can turn it for our good. For some reason, on this Flag Day, I am going to remember, we have not seen heaven’s standard, God’s flag, but in my heart is an awareness of God’s love for us.
