Intro:

The story of David and Goliath is one that has been told for over 3000 years. Many sermons and teachings have been done using this story has an illustration of overcoming obstacles in one’s life and living victoriously over situations.
What’s striking in this story is the faith of a young shepherd boy who stood against a giant when men of war, men who knew how to fight in any battle wouldn’t stand against this giant.
What gave David this faith as a young boy?
There are giants you will have to face in the world. They will come against you and challenge you. There purpose is to destroy you.
Giants defined:
That which seeks to oppose and intimidate you through taunting, size, and its own power.
Taunting: it speaks to you. This comes in the form of peer pressure, temptation, and rebellion.
It tells you mockingly “your just a wimp if you don’t do or use this or that”. It makes fun of you if you don’t join in.
Size: it always appears bigger and grander than it actually is. This appeals to what you see. It feels good and looks good. This deals with what you are able to see, feel, taste, hear, and smell. The five senses.
Power: giants use their power against you. They want you to feel powerless against them. The purpose is to enslave you to them.

Every giant has a weakness:

Goliath had a soft spot that was exposed by God. The giants you face have a weakness. A soft spot in their armor. That weakness is your faith.
Your Faith
David’s faith wasn’t in what he could do, it was in what God will do.
1. Your faith must be rooted in the Word of God. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God (Rom.10:17)
2. You must have faith in who you are. For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Rom.10:13),
But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: (John 1:12)
If you have trusted in Jesus as your Lord and Saviour you are a child of God.
3. Be yourself, use what God has given you to defeat the giants in your life. Saul tried to give David his armor, but David couldn’t fight in it. It was to big for him. All David had was 5 smooth stones and a sling.
God used what David had and was able to use and defeated Goliath.

Conclusion:

The giants you face today are:
Drugs
Pornography
Materialism
Alcohol
Music
Identity
It is your faith in Jesus Christ that will give you victory over the giants you face. Faith is the weakness of giants.
