Chace and Stephanie’s Wedding
1 Corinthians 13:1–13 (HCSB)
Love: The Superior Way
13 If I speak human or angelic languages
but do not have love,
I am a sounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
2 If I have the gift of prophecy
and understand all mysteries
and all knowledge,
and if I have all faith
so that I can move mountains
but do not have love, I am nothing.
3 And if I donate all my goods to feed the poor,
and if I give my body in order to boast
but do not have love, I gain nothing.
4 Love is patient, love is kind.
Love does not envy,
is not boastful, is not conceited,
5 does not act improperly,
is not selfish, is not provoked,
and does not keep a record of wrongs.
6 Love finds no joy in unrighteousness
but rejoices in the truth.
7 It bears all things, believes all things,
hopes all things, endures all things.
8 Love never ends.
But as for prophecies,
they will come to an end;
as for languages, they will cease;
as for knowledge, it will come to an end.
9 For we know in part,
and we prophesy in part.
10 But when the perfect comes,
the partial will come to an end.
11 When I was a child,
I spoke like a child,
I thought like a child,
I reasoned like a child.
When I became a man,
I put aside childish things.
12 For now we see indistinctly, as in a mirror,
but then face to face.
Now I know in part,
but then I will know fully,
as I am fully known.
13 Now these three remain:
faith, hope, and love.
But the greatest of these is love.
Paul says that the most important thing that we can have is love.
Love is something that cannot be faked for a long period of time.
We can fake it for awhile,,, but eventually,,, the truth will come out.
When it comes to marriage,,, the love that they have for each other is important.
But,,, it’s very important for each of them that the love of God comes first in their personal lives!
And I believe that is true for both Stephanie and Chace.
So now,,, that love of God that they have individually,,, becomes intertwined with their love for each other and becomes unbreakable through the love that they will share for God and themselves,,, again being sure that the love of God reigns supreme,,, or comes first in their future together.
When Jesus was asked,,, “What is the greatest commandment?” Jesus said in Matthew 22:37–40 (HCSB)
37 He said to him, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. 38 This is the greatest and most important command. 39 The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. 40 All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commands.”
Jesus also said in John 13:34-35 (HCSB)
34 “I give you a new command: Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you must also love one another.
35 By this all people will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
So we know from the words of Jesus that love of God is the most important commandment.
We also know that the love of our neighbor is the second most important commandment.
So from these verses and the words of Paul in his letter to the Corinthians,,, we know that love is very important.
And it’s the type of sacrificial love that was displayed by Jesus for us,,, that we should strive to copy,,, that will see both of you,,, Stephanie and Chace,,, through any problem that you will face in your life together!
