6-7-20 A Godless Life
1 Kings 15:25 – 16:33 “A Godless Life”
Chaos
Israel saw 7 different rulers in the time of Asa.
Conspiracies and power struggles were the norm (15:27).
How much certainty could they have?
The one thing you can count on in this system is that you can’t count on anything.
Progressively Worse Sin
The sins of the kings caused Israel to sin (15:26, 30, 34, 16:2, 16:25).
The sins of the kings got worse (16:25, 16:30, 33).
Sin is defined in the eyes of God (15:26,34, 16:2, 16:25, 30).
Sin stokes God’s anger (15:30, 16:2, 16:13, 16:26, 33).
No Earthly Hope
There was absolutely no basis for hope that anything would change.
We should think about this in terms of the spiritual reality - our own hearts.
We all were once without God and without hope (Ephesians 2:12).
There may not be earthly hope but there is hope - Jesus! (Ephesians 2:13).
