Introduction
God’s plan for reconciliation through Jesus.
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.
Creation
Creation
In creation we see the perfect love of the TRINITY
IN creation we see the perfect harmony of IMAGE DEI
But Creation was broken by Sin.
17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
Beacon of Hope is found in Christ.
Beacon of Hope is found in Christ.
He is before all things
In Him all things hold together.
In the OT you see God’s plan start to unfold
In the OT you see God’s plan start to unfold
We see God start to reconcile man to himself
From Abraham we see God designate My PEOPLE (vs NOT my people)
God’s chosen people start their relationship with Him
But they still struggle with brokenness because of their sin.
Then Jesus comes and God shows the world that His plan is bigger than one race of people.
Then Jesus comes and God shows the world that His plan is bigger than one race of people.
Jesus would reconcile with people not like Him
Witnessed to TAX collectors, centurions
Witnessed to a Samaritan woman (then town)
Spoke about LOVING OUR NEIGHBOR
Who is my neighbor: Those not like you.
Then on the cross Jesus gives reconciliation with God PERMINANCE
Not offering a temporary fix (the law)
He is offering a permanent solution (Jesus)
Where temporary reconciliation was once offered through birth.
Permanent reconciliation is now offered thorough rebirth.
18 And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.
Those who accept this offer of reconciliation are called the church.
Those who accept this offer of reconciliation are called the church.
They are joined together as one body with Christ as the head.
Jesus is the first and all who are dead can have new life in Him.
He died so we may live
Notice please the paramount role that reconciliation plays when you see the Church as the body of Christ.
Our love for each other is supposed to be our witness for Christ.
Therefore, Jesus alone has a preeminent role in the reconciliation to God.
How do we know that Jesus is the preeminent center of God’s response to the brokenness of sin?
How do we know that Jesus is the preeminent center of God’s response to the brokenness of sin?
(Paul offers two reasons)
(Paul offers two reasons)
Reason #1
19 For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell,
God is reconciling us to Himself
HE comes to us Himself (in Jesus)
We are not reconciled to AN IDEA
We are reconciled to GOD
Reason #2
20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.
*Through HIM> reconciliation of ALL THINGS, making peace through the blood of HIS cross.
ALL things were affected by sin
ALL things (except under the earth) are offered reconciliation thought Christ.
Made possible by the blood of His cross.
And nothing else.
So then what now is our part in reconciliation?
So then what now is our part in reconciliation?
To just live in it and enjoy it?
Maybe if the great commission never happened.
Our role is to spread the message of reconciliation to God across the globe.
Our role is to spread the message of reconciliation to God across the globe.
Acts 1:8 Jesus directs the body to grow to very ends of the earth.
They would come to find out that meant all people.
I submit that this message of reconciliation (the Gospel)
Is ultimately a pursuit back to the IMAGO DEI
We hear about the new normal…
We will never see NORMAL again until we all see IMAGO DEI
We should pursue reconciliation with each other by pursuing of Christ together.
Verse 20: His work was to “…Reconcile to himself all things.”
All things together by bringing all things to him.
Can you be truly reconciled if either are separated from God.
· The Gospel of Jesus Christ teaches you that are are valuable because all are created in the image of God. (Imago Dei)
Imago Dei shows us that we have no authority to assign value to another human being. (Only God can do that)
I was challenged by a friend that evangelical Christians are not Pro-LIFE but only Pro-BIRTH
The Gospel does t not teach this. (Therefore, we must not life it)
Right now unlike any other time the world is collectively looking for an answer to a pain that has existed for far too long.
We have the answer.
We know why all people matter
We have work to do.
Will you join me.
