HOW TO PRAY FOR OUR NATION’S HEALING “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV) 1. WE MUST CONFESS WITH HUMILITY - “will humble themselves” “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” James 4:6 (NIV) 2. WE MUST PRAY PERSISTENTLY - “and pray” “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” Ephesians 6:18 (NIV) 3. WE MUST SEEK GOD EARNESTLY- “and seek my face” “But if … you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul. When you are in distress and all these things have happened to you, then in later days you will return to the LORD your God and obey him. For the LORD your God is a merciful God; he will not abandon or destroy you…” Deuteronomy 4:29-31a (NIV) 4. WE MUST REPENT SINCERELY - “and turn from their wicked ways” “For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without selfcontrol, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these.” 2 Timothy 3:2-5 (NASB)
