Who is David speaking these blessings over? Who he is presuming to in a sense, pray for, for the success and accomplishment of their cause and lives and being. When you read commentaries, it is presumed that this has to do with a leader, in Israel, pronouncing a blessing of the “with-ness” of God with his people, in every respect, as one-man, or even as one entity as the people of God, similar to a company, or a business, or a corporation.
Imagine Continual Deliverance
Imagine Continual Deliverance
Read Psalm 20: 1-6, “
1 May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble!
May the name of the God of Jacob protect you!
2 May he send you help from the sanctuary
and give you support from Zion!
3 May he remember all your offerings
and regard with favor your burnt sacrifices! Selah
4 May he grant you your heart’s desire
and fulfill all your plans!
5 May we shout for joy over your salvation,
and in the name of our God set up our banners!
May the LORD fulfill all your petitions!
6 Now I know that the LORD saves his anointed;
he will answer him from his holy heaven
with the saving might of his right hand.
When we look at the language of this Psalm, we see repeated phrases:
May God answer you
May God send you help
May God remember all your offerings
May God grant you your hearts desire
May God he answer “us”.
When I was reading over this Scripture: What came to mind was about how many benefits there are to being in right relationship to God. Trust me, God will not treat you like this Psalm states, if you are not walking with him, rightly, or in righteousness.
Psalm 84:11 states, “ 11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield;
the LORD bestows favor and honor;
no good thing does he withhold
from those whose walk is blameless.
If you are walking blameless before God. If you have redeemed your life through confession and application of his sacrifice, and if your heart has opened to God. You can bet that God’s eye is on you. And you can bet that his heart is toward your for your good!
But think for a moment. Imagine: we all make blunders and mistakes. We all can fall into being misunderstood or have temporary lapses. But man, they are not forgiving. You may have a good friend, or a family member who will love you no matter what your case, but general mankind, will not forgive you, but will accuse and hold you, even if it is something small, especially if you are a man or woman of God, who is seeking to do good in the world. The Devil will create opposition through ideas and philosophy against the righteous.
So imagine, that God is with you, to deliver, you! So imagine, he is with you, to celebrate with you, to give you what you desire (due to your state of sanctification) and he is with you to confirm your plans as successful, and that he gives you sovereign providential proof of his power. This is a life and actually a state, that is experienced by few and is not always experienced very often.
Pray for it! Seek the Lord! Ask God to do something in your day! And plead with him for it!
Eyes Opened: Shared Pleasure
Eyes Opened: Shared Pleasure
Read Psalm 20:7-9, “ 7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.
8 They collapse and fall,
but we rise and stand upright.
9 O LORD, save the king!
May he answer us when we call.
God has provided as way for his glory, to not just be seen. But God has also provided a way for his glory to be desired to be seen as what it is and to not ignore it and to seek it.
You look up to God, and you see him, and you love him. That is a benefit. Many people do not experience this!
You look up to God and you see that he is good, and you find in you, a hear that praises him! That is a benefit. Many people do not experience this.
You look up to God, and you find your heart and life inclined to him and inclined to place your trust in him, with uninterrupted confidence.
You find that due to your faith, and that your cause is united with God’s purpose and cause and will, that your enemies are united as yours, and it is his pleasure to defeat your enemies, to hear your call, and to summon himself to your aid.
Romans 2:7 states, “...to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life.”
You look up to God, you take pleasure in the light, and you take pleasure in seeking that his glory that you see, is what is essential to your life and everything you need. This is real living faith. And this is what God also delights in.
Imagine also, that when you are taking pleasure in the good things of God, and he is also pleased with you. What other dynamic and type of life, would you really want?
You love God, and he is also pleased to save you, and fulfill all of these petitions.
BUT
a. we also see a condition here. There is a reason why God is inclined to work on behalf of Israel in this situation. It is because of the trust of the people of God being in God, and not in the flesh.
b. The enemies of God will fall, because they have a different dynamic and ethic at work. They trust in the flesh, in man, in horses, and they have a cause that is not ending on pleasing God or giving him glory.
c. The people of God, in this context, is preparing to continue to give and even to give God glory, in some experience that they are facing, and trusting God in. And are effectively stating, “God we have already determined to give you the glory for our victories, and the blessings we experience in our lives and in this context from you!
God bless!
