“How-to Earthquake Proof Your Life”
Psalm 46

Sermon Idea: An unwavering trust in God helps keep believers hopeful, even when
their world is being rocked.
Body:
I.
Precept #1: Trust God to provide refuge (Psalm 46:1-3).
A. God is the believer’s impenetrable hiding place.
--How so?
(1) God is the believer’s impenetrable hiding place, because He
provides respite for battle weary soldiers—Ephesians 6:12.
(2) God is the believer’s impenetrable hiding place, because God is a
shelter that never wears out—Hebrews 13:8.
(3) God is the believer’s impenetrable hiding place, because God is a
shelter that protects.
(4) God is the believer’s impenetrable hiding place, because God is a
shelter where grace abounds.
(5) God is the believer’s impenetrable hiding place, because God is a
shelter limitless in capacity.
B. God’s past faithfulness prepares believers for tomorrow’s troubles.
--Psalm 20:7.
II.
Precept #2: Trust God to fight your battles (Psalm 46:4-7).
A. God indwells His people by the Holy Spirit—1 Kings 8:27.
B. God fights the believer’s battles.
--God is the Lord of Hosts (Lord Sabbaoth=Latin equivalent).
--The battle belongs to the Lord--1 Samuel 17:47.
--If God is on the believer’s side, how can they ultimately lose?
--Romans 8:31b.
--The Church shall prevail triumphantly--Matthew 16:18.
C. God is immovable, formidable and impenetrable.
III.
Precept #3: Trust God by relinquishing control (Psalm 46:8-11).
A. God is completely sovereign.
B. Get out of the way and let God be God.
--How is this accomplished? (Three Means)
(1) Means #1: Give God the steering wheel and trust Him unequivocally.
--Proverbs 3:5-6.
(2) Means #2: Totally surrender yourself to God—Romans 12:1-2.
(3) Means #3: Quit worrying--Matthew 6:25-34.
