The world we live in today is constantly encouraging us to live for ourselves. Even the most innocent of tv networks, Disney channel, shouts to its adolescent viewers, “just follower your heart!”
As christians, we know better. We know that God tells us in Jeremiah 17:9 that the heart is deceitful above all things, and that it is desperately wicked.
No, we can’t settle to follow the treads of the world, and in turn, follow our hearts or our own desires.
That would lead to a vain life, fully of selfish ambition.
The apostle Paul teaches us in the book of Philippians to be like Jesus instead. Instead of living a life focused on ourselves, we should live a life focused on Jesus, and, in turn focused on others around us. After all, Jesus himself lived a life focused on those around him.
Paul writes in Philippians chapter 2 that we should forget ourselves long enough to lend a helping hand. We should count others as more significant than ourselves. We should have the mindset of Jesus, who, being himself God, lowered himself so low that he was even willing to die on a cross—a death that should have been ours.
I was wondering, like, what are some ways that you could count others as more important than yourself today? Are there any opportunities that have come your way or that are coming your way soon, in which you can practice putting someone else above your self?
I hope you have a blessed day!
