Jesus Christ’s Victory

The Marathon runner understands that he/she has to pace themselves in all aspects of the marathon. Not try to sprint full throttle for that could cost them precious time later or injuries, or even worse ones life in times past!
But if trained and follow proper steps one could be victorious in the completion of a marathon. Christ came in first place so that we could take His model and follow in His foot steps.
There is a lot of similarities to being triumphant over sin and running a marathon.
Hebrews 12:1–2 NLT
1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. 2 We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.
A good runner has the right equipment for the run, be it practice or the race.
The believer has the right equipment for the race.
1 Corinthians 9:24–27 NLT
24 Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! 25 All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. 26 So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. 27 I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.
Ephesians 6:10–13 NLT
10 A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. 12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.
A good runner stays hydrated.
The believer stays filled with Christ.
John 4:14 NLT
14 But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.”
Christ knows the race route better then any of us and so if we lean into him then we will be victorious and triumphant.
Hebrews 4:15 NLT
15 This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin.
A good runner never allows their determination to deter and get them off of thier destination.
The believer never allows their temptations to take them from their triumphs.
Romans 8:6 NLT
6 So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.
