Dwelling in Unity

As you prepare to hear from the Lord today:
If your brother has anything against you, leave your offering at the altar and go make it right with him. Then come again to the altar and give your offering.
Psalm 133 ESV
A Song of Ascents. Of David. 1 Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! 2 It is like the precious oil on the head, running down on the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes! 3 It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion! For there the Lord has commanded the blessing, life forevermore.
Oh the anointing oil! An outward sign of the expectation of the presence of the Holy Spirit in someone’s life. Prophets were anointed. Priests were anointed. Kings were anointed. It was expected these three figures would act under the guidance of the Spirit of God. So that oil would flow!
We no longer recognize the office of prophet, priest or king in the protestant church because we ARE prophets, priests and kings. Every believer carries that privilege and responsibility.
We no longer anoint with oil this way (anointing the sick was a different circumstance) because the Holy Spirit doesnt ‘come on’ one person for a time like in the Old Testament. Since Pentecost, every believer has the power of the Holy Spirit. Not poured on his head, but poured into this vessel. This jar of clay.
The Holy Spirit guides us into all truth. What a unifying concept that is. All of us guided toward the same truth! I praise God for the future blessing of eternal life. And part of the blessing is I get to spend it with you.
