SEEING BEYOND
Vision is the art of seeing what is invisible to others
-Jonathan Swift,a Priest and political pamphleteer from the17th Century.
These words of Jonathan Swift has such an impeccable meaning that even today, many still failed to understand the impact of it.
You see, there are Christians today who are struggling to see the potential, future, and even their destiny in their own lives.
They cannot see where they are going with God.
And some doesn't even have a vision in their life.
To them, waking up every day is just mere existence.
Some even feel like an insignificant satellite bouncing around the universe aimlessly.
Well, there is another group of Christians who cannot see God doing great things in their lives.
They often settle for mediocrity. They feel that they are only called to do small things and therefore, settle for that portion or thinking that's life for them.
And sometimes, they bought into the lies of the enemies telling them that they were only called to do small business or do small things.
They cannot see themselves doing bigger things than what they are doing right now.
So these people have a stunted vision.
They have very restricted perception about their future.
And it is almost like tunnel vision that ends after the short light throw.
So guys, what do you see today?
What do you see about yourself?
Where do you think you are going with your life?
"If you cannot picture or see where you are going in life, you will never reach there"
-Joshua Teo, still alive.
And even sometimes, we can picture or see where we are going, but we restrict ourselves or tell ourselves that it is the furthest we can go.
There are animals who are so often tied to a leash that even after they were released, they will not run further than the lash that used to tie them.
How interesting?
Many at times, people are being leashed by the ideology of their circumstances, situation or who they are.
Their mental understanding of themselves and situation stop them from going further.
Hence, they are afraid to take a risk or go anywhere beyond their comfort zone or their metal safe zone.
You see guys,
"our vision capacity determines our capacity to do greater things"
So in life what we see is where we are going.
Today let us see how God taught Abraham to SEEING BEYOND his mental capacity.
Genesis 13:10-17
10 Lot looked up and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan was well watered, like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, toward Zoar. (This was before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.) 11 So Lot chose for himself the whole plain of the Jordan and set out toward the east. The two men parted company: 12 Abram lived in the land of Canaan, while Lot lived among the cities of the plain and pitched his tents near Sodom. 13 Now the men of Sodom were wicked and were sinning greatly against the Lord.
14 The Lord said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, "Lift up your eyes from where you are and look north and south, east and west. 15 All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring forever. 16 I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted. 17 Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I am giving it to you."
This passage talks about how Lot and Abram workers had arguments and were fighting one another.
So in order to stop, the fight, Abram suggested them to go separate ways.
And Abram suggested to Lot, see and look around where you want to go, and I will just go the opposite way.
Interesting, in this passage, in verse 10, it says Lot looked up and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan was well watered, like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, toward Zoar.
So Lot was seeing with his carnal human eyes and he saw what was pleasing and good to his eyes.
He did not think or thought anything in relation to God when he was choosing the location.
He did not even ask God or seek the Lord.
As a result, he made a choice based on what he could see.
He could see only that far, and that's was how he landed in Sodom and Gomorrah.
Not only he got himself in a wrong place, he never thought about how far he could have go if it was with God.
So Lot having a narrow vision and carving to his human desire look for the place where he could go.
