Questions & Answers Take 2
Welcome
Intro
If you will recall from last week we are going to be answering some questions
Not to debate but rather to be a voice of truth in a world that is in desperate need of a voice of truth right now
See John the Baptist came preaching repentance and baptism
1 Now in those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying, 2 “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” 3 For this is the one referred to by Isaiah the prophet when he said, “The voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Make ready the way of the Lord, Make His paths straight!’ ”
I believe that we have generations that have possible grown up in the church and believe that God sort of just winks at sin and says thats ok
I believe we have a generation that at some point walked down the aisle of a church and believe they are saved and then
When the storms of life happen they are tossed here and there because they were never anchored in Christ
And church now is our time to stand up and speak truth
Again not to debate someone to show them we are smarter or know more but to simple share truth
Notice is not a truth, or our truth
But it is the absolute truth
Jesus Christ
this morning we are going to answer a few more Questions from Jon Steinguard who is the lead singer of the Christian Band Hawk Nelson who came out and said he no longer believes in God and then began to list a bunch of questions
So we are going to answer some of those questions
the first question this morning is
Why does Jesus have to die for our sin?
Well in short it is either you or Him and I would bet that we are glad it was Him and not us
16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
Jesus died for your sin and my sin because of His love for you and I
Praise the Lord that Jesus loves us that much
but
The question is unique because it already submits that sin is a problem
See sin separates you and I from God
See Sin is a problem
If you will recall sin is missing the mark
Sin is all the bad things that are against God
The Bible says that you and I have missed the mark
The mark is perfection
you might sit there and say thats not fair that God would require perfection out of us
well when you create a world out of nothing and create people for your world then you can do what you want
This is what God did
And because of sin there is a price to pay
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Sin causes death
wages is what is earned by doing something
the something is this case is sin and what you earn for sinning is death
Because of sin there has to be death to suffice
16 Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness?
See sin leads to death
this answers another one of Jon’s questions
If God can do anything can't He forgive without someone dying
to be short
no because as we have seen and will see
Sin always leads to death
No matter how good if feels or how fun you think it is
sin will always lead to death
Sin always had and always will lead to death
That is truth
And church if we left it at that
that wouldn’t be a very encouraging sermon
but it doesn’t stop there
See something or someone has to die to cover sin
for there to be any sort of righteousness and forgiveness from God
something had to die to cover sin because sin always leads to death
It is a fact
21 The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife, and clothed them.
All the way back in Genesis at the beginning we see that blood had to cover the sin from Adam and Eve
something had to die to give up it’s skin to cover the sin of Adam and Eve
Something or someone would have to die to cover your sin and my sin
It is just not something that we can look at God and say I am sorry and move on
God just doesn’t look at you and I and say thats ok buddy maybe next time you will get it and not sin
No
Sin always has and always will lead to death
26 For it was fitting for us to have such a high priest, holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners and exalted above the heavens; 27 who does not need daily, like those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the sins of the people, because this He did once for all when He offered up Himself.
from Genesis to Matthew we see that the High Priest would offer up a sacrifice for himself and then the people of Israel to cover their sin
that was a constant reminder year after year of them being sinners
And then Jesus came
Jesus did that
Jesus was the perfect sacrifice to cover all your past, present and future sin
And now the ball is once again in our court to either accept that free gift that was so graciously given or to deny it
We know based off evidence from the Bible that blood had to be shed to cover sin
We know that sin causes death
We know that because of sin something or someone has to die
We also know that throughout the old testament up to Jesus they
they being the people oof God offered up animals year after year to cover their own sin before God
So God took it upon Himself to make a final sacrifice so that we would not have to continue to sacrifice animals for our sins
3 But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins year by year. 4 For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.
The writer of Hebrews says that their yearly sacrifices that reminder them year after year that they missed the mark of perfection set by God
But it doesn’t cover their sin completely because if it had covered their sin completely they wouldn’t have to do it yearly, and there would be no need for Jesus’s death on the cross
Something born into and born of a broken world can not and will not cover our sin
Jesus was born into this world but was not of it
Jesus was the perfect lamb of God, completely without sin
10 By this will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
In the words of Jesus IT IS FINISHED
There is no more need for sacrifice for sin
And really church there is no need for shame or condemnation for sin in our lives if and only if we have Jesus living in our lives
Because Jesus is and was the perfect sacrifice to cover your sin and my sin once in for all
That is why Jesus had to die
Because sin requires blood
And because Jesus loves us so much that He said I will do it and take of it once in for all
period end of story
It Is FINISHED!
Jesus took the sin problem and dealt with it
So believers in Jesus stop bringing it up stop walking around in shame, stop trying to pay Jesus back
Instead live in the forgiveness and grace and mercy of Gods gift that comes through repentance and believing in Jesus
In Closing
Jesus died for your sin and my sin because of His love for you and I
So that we could have the opportunity to be in fellowship with God
To walk with God to commune with God
To have a personal relationship with the creator of the universe
God chose to sacrifice His son because of His love for us and also because someone had to pay for sin
sin leads to death and to cover that bill something or someone had to die
God chose the perfect sinless sacrifice His son Jesus
And after Jesus paid for your sin and my sin by dying on the cross
He rose from the grave to give us life
So this morning as the band comes up
maybe you are hear today and do not have a personal relationship with Jesus
We want to invite you down to begin a personal relationship with Jesus
We want to help with that
or maybe you are here and you simple need to spend some time in pray at the altar
the altar is open
