Are we Spiritual as we should be
Are we Spiritual as we should be?
First, the answer is simple, NO! We see churches have religious looking services where we shout and sing (no I am not talking about us there) and things get to looking good but then something happens that shouldn’t.
A lot of things that happen in today’s church make me worry about just how godly we really are. Not only that how prepared we aren’t for spiritual warfare!
I have a short list of just a few things I speak of:
- A preacher tells his church he will preach sermons and 6 months ahead of time he already knows the scripture, the text, and the message. Many pastors just go to sermons dot com and word for word his sermon appears!
- Churches have laid out on a schedule moment by moment what will happen and when it will happen who will pray who will preach who will read and when they will do it! I have a question did anyone ask God what He wanted?
People who are gifted to sing or play an instrument just sit idly by in a service (if they even come) and never sing nor give God the glory. They wait for someone else to sing. And yet we smugly talk about the Church of Christ quoting Scriptures like
Isaiah 38:20KJV
20 The LORD was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the LORD.
- A prayer is answered and nobody testifies about it letting anyone else know that God answered the prayer they prayed just last week or all last month. How do I know God answers prayer if I am an unbeliever?
Jesus was about to be betrayed, He wanted to spend some of His last hours before the betrayal in prayer, and with the disciples He felt were worthy of this moment with Him!
Matthew 26:36-46KJV
36 Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder. 37 And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy. 38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me. 39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. 40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? 41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. 42 He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done. 43 And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy. 44 And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words. 45 Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 46 Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me.
They were about to go into a spiritual warfare! Some think Jesus was simply praying because He didn’t want to go on the cross. But there were other reasons the disciples were going there with him a great spiritual warfare was about to happen!
And the disciples weren’t looking for it!
Are we?
Churches all over this globe are guilty of this same crime. I have been at many prayer services, revival services, church services where the entire church is praising and praying and calling out to God one moment at the time when the piano stops playing though something happens! Everyone gets up!! Or have you ever been at an altar praying and fell asleep? Many have!
V 46 There truly are a lot of churches out there that have heard sleep on now it’s too late!
Ephesians 6:16-18KJV
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
1 Peter 5:8KJV
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
Ephesians 6:10-12KJV
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Romans 8:38KJV
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
