The Poolside Message
The Poolside Message
18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.
Background- Jesus had entered the pool by the sheep-gate.
He healed a lame man of 38 years
The man had waited by the pool at Bethesda waiting for the waters to stirr
Jesus healed the man on the sabbath and told him to take up his bed and walk.
He found the healed man in the temple and told the man who he was
14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee. 15 The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole.
Jesus had a message for the Jews and Rulers by the pool
He was equal with God
He was God’s son
He obeys the father and does what he says
Men should honor the son as the Father
Honor Christ you honor the Father
Jesus has the authority to execute Judgement
So what was the message beside the pool.
Jesus is equal God and has the authority to execute judgement on mankind.
This was a big announcement !
The story here was not just a lame man of 38 years can walk but the man that healed him is God
Wow - the messiah in the flesh

16 And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day. 17 But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work. 18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.
1st the Sabbath
Jesus was doing these things on the Sabbath. In addition to the case of the invalid’s healing (5:1–15),
John later recorded the cure of a blind man on the Sabbath (chap. 9).
The grain-picking (Mark 2:23–28),
the healing of a shriveled hand (Mark 3:1–5),
curing a woman who had been crippled for 18 years (Luke 13:10–17),
and healing a man with dropsy (Luke 14:1–6)—
all these took place on the Sabbath.
As seen in these passages, Jesus’ theology or philosophy of the Sabbath differed from that of His opponents.
His opponents in the controversy were progressively humiliated while the crowds favored Him.
The opponents’ response was to persecute Jesus by opposing Him and trying to kill Him (John 5:16, 18; 7:19, 25).[1]
kill him
16 And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.
The Sabbath controversy was enough to cause them to hate Jesus, but the implication of His claim that God is His own Father was impossible for them to accept.
To them, God has no equals. Jesus’ claim, in their thinking, was a monstrous blasphemy.
To be equal with God suggested, they thought, two gods and therefore polytheism. To make oneself “equal with God” was a claim of arrogant independence.
In the Talmud four persons were branded as haughty because they made themselves equal to God: pagan rulers Hiram, Nebuchadnezzar, Pharaoh, and the Jewish King Joash.
illustration making someone mad by challenging their beliefs.
Gannon - why do you had gays .... God loves everyone

II. The Trinity and Jesus
II. The Trinity and Jesus
19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise. 20 For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.
23 That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.
He claims equality in seven particulars:
(1) Equal in working: “What things soever he (the Father) doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise” (v. 19).
(2) Equal in knowing: “For the Father loveth the Son, and showeth him all things that himself doeth” (v. 20).
(3) Equal in resurrecting: “For as the Father raiseth up the dead … so the Son quickeneth whom he will” (v. 21 with vv. 28, 29).
(4) Equal in judging: “For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son” (v. 22 with v. 27).
(5) Equal in honour: “That all men should honour the Son even as they honour the Father” (v. 23).
(6) Equal in regenerating: “He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me … is passed from death unto life” (vv. 24, 25).
(7) Equal in self-existence: “For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself” (v. 26).[1]Trinity and Jesus s

III. The Tasks Assigned to Jesus
III. The Tasks Assigned to Jesus
21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will. 22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. 25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. 26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; 27 And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man. 28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
Job description or tasks covered.

Wow literally nothing is left out of the pool side message
They have heard it all they are without excuse
He gives eternal life
21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;
He will raise the dead
25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.
29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
He Judges all men
27 And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.
