Bargains and deals are often things we as humans look for.  Whether it is a new car, a new home, clothes, we want the best deals, so we look for the best bargains.  Sometimes we make deals with people about small things. Others have been major things, but needless to say all of us have made some sort of deal.  Some have been good, some have been bad, some have fallen through, but we’ve all made some deals.  When we look at our relationships, friendships, marriages some people refer to them as bad deals.  We have been let down, hurt, mistreated, and frustrated.  Like it or not, we have all made some deals. However, there is one deal, one relationship that man can not beat. You have no worries about being let down, and that is the submission to the will and promises of God.  You don’t have to worry about Him running out of blessings.  You need not concern yourself with Him not holding up His end. God can be trusted! His Promises are true and His will shall be done.

I believe Jacob could really assist us today in understanding how good God is and how much we can trust God. You see Jacob knew a little something of deals.  His name meant “Sup planter” or heel holder, he was known as a trickster, he was always attempting to come out a head…

-          Grits for his brother’s birthright

-          His brother’s blessing,  He was conniving  and cunning

-          Looking for something for nothing, let’s not be so hard on Jacob we got people like that even today…

-          In order for Jacob to become what God wanted him to be he had to overcome his past.  Often our past causes us to be blinded to our future.

-          Jacob had been forced to leave home in fear and shame, fleeing for his life. Remember, he was about 77 years old at this time; and he had just stolen the blessing (inheritance) of his father from Esau, stolen it through lies and deception. Esau, his brother, had threatened to kill him, and now Jacob was having to flee for his life.

-          He was not just leaving home; he was fleeing from home. His flight had been planned by him and his mother to save his life from the threat of Esau. (Genesis 27:41-46). Esau’s threat was real, and Jacob feared for his life.

-          Jacob could not get along with other until he met God…(all the while God had been speaking through his father Isaac)

-          Jacob’s Dream

-          Jacob’s Promise to Tithe

Jacob learned….

I.                   GOD NEVER WELCHS

-          When God says it He means it… “God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent.  Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?  Num 23:19

-          He promised Abraham, An Inheritance; Abraham was faithful

-          He Promised David, A Kingdom; David was Patient

-          He Promised Noah, Safety in the Ark; Noah was willing

-          He Promised Joshua, Be with him;

-          He Promised Moses, He would see the promised land

II.                  MAN OFTEN WELCHS

-          say one thing and mean something else, Man will promise you things and it won’t happen, Man will speak with a forky tongue

-          Man will lie and back away from what they say

-          (Laban) Isn’t it something when you just can’t trust family

-          Jobs, Stocks, Interest Rates

-          You will find yourself a slave to things, and working for things, with no progress

-          We even Welch on God, (The Hobo asked to borrow $10.00)

III.               GOD GIVES BENEFITS (GREAT INVESTMENT)

-          He keeps us

-          He feeds us

-          He shelters us
