1 Kings 17 – God Judges and Provides

God’s Judgment

Elijah enter Ahab’s world of idolatry with a message of judgment from God (vs1).

The effects of drought would be disastrous for that nation.

Baal could do nothing about the drought situation.

This shows God is the one to be concerned with.

God’s Provision for Elijah

Elijah would be affected by the drought and his life was in danger (18:4).

God gives Elijah his plans for provision (vs3-4, 9).

God’s actions show that human standards of wealth and security mean nothing.

It takes faith to walk in obedience and experience God’s provision (vs5, 10).

God’s Provision of Life

Life is really what God provided all along.

Elijah and the widow are confronted with the problem of death (vs17-18).

Because the Lord is God - life has always been His territory.

The ultimate provision of life is in Jesus Christ.
