Intro

It has been a bad 2 months. There months to come are also going to be bad.
2020 will go down in the history books. If the Lord tarries, generations from now people will study the events of this year and be amazed.
Massive job loss. World wide poverity. High death rates. Econimc turmoil. Churchs closed around trhe globe. Families banned from seeing weach other. Miliraty troops deployed against citazins.
This has been a very bad year.
You know who also had a very bad year? Job. In fact Job had a very bad day.
Job 1:13–19 ESV
13 Now there was a day when his sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house, 14 and there came a messenger to Job and said, “The oxen were plowing and the donkeys feeding beside them, 15 and the Sabeans fell upon them and took them and struck down the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you.” 16 While he was yet speaking, there came another and said, “The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you.” 17 While he was yet speaking, there came another and said, “The Chaldeans formed three groups and made a raid on the camels and took them and struck down the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you.” 18 While he was yet speaking, there came another and said, “Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house, 19 and behold, a great wind came across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young people, and they are dead, and I alone have escaped to tell you.”
That my frineds is a bad day.
Why did Job have such a terrible day?
Job;s bad day all atarted one day in Heaven
Job 1:6 ESV
6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them.
In this discussion God and satan talk about Job and God says:
Job 1:8 ESV
8 And the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, who fears God and turns away from evil?”
God tells Satan about Job, about his faith, about his devotion and about his trust in God.
God is saying: “My children are blamless, upright, devoted and Holy.”
And Amen to that, that is exacally what Christians should be.
What happens next is very intresting, God shows us the m ind of Satan. He shows us the inner working of the Devils mind.
In response to God’s statment about Job’s faith, loveand devotion, look at what Satan says:
Job 1:9–11 ESV
9 Then Satan answered the Lord and said, “Does Job fear God for no reason? 10 Have you not put a hedge around him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. 11 But stretch out your hand and touch all that he has, and he will curse you to your face.”
And look at Job 2
Job 2:5 ESV
5 But stretch out your hand and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse you to your face.”
In these verses Satan reveals why he believes Job loves God.
satan belives that the reason Job loves God and is faith to God is only because of the following thinmgs:
1: Protection (A hedge)
2: Blessings
3: Prosperity
4: Health.
Understand this cearfully church.
Satan belives this of every Christians.
satan belives that the reason why you love God, the reason why you serve God, the reason why you pray, the reason why you worshiup, the very reason why you are at church this morning is because you want or have:
1: Protection (A hedge)
2: Blessings
3: Prosperity
4: Health.
This is powerful, because tell me this: Are these not the very things that many churches promise?
Is this not a list of the top 4 things many chriostians pray for?
Yet these are the very things that Satan thngs we are serving God for.
And satan belives that if these things were taken away, Job, and all christians would “Curse God to is face”.
So God, to prove Satan wrong, Allows the Devil to take all these things away from Job.
satan is fully conined that without these things Job would deny od, blame God and sin.
And yet, amam zingly, after all this how does poor ob respond?
Job 1:22 ESV
22 In all this Job did not sin or charge God with wrong.
Why did Job not sin or charge God with wrong?
Because obviously Satan was wrong.
Job did not love or serve God because of:
1: Protection (A hedge)
2: Blessings
3: Prosperity
4: Health.
So when these things were violently taken away, Job suffered, Job wept, Job mnourned, Job even cursed the day he was born.
Job 3:11–13 ESV
11 “Why did I not die at birth, come out from the womb and expire? 12 Why did the knees receive me? Or why the breasts, that I should nurse? 13 For then I would have lain down and been quiet; I would have slept; then I would have been at rest,
The loss of Job;s property, livlehood, and amily was a truly horrendous blow to this poor man, BUT his relationship and faith in God was not fundimentally connected to any of these things.
So he could lose them and not loose faith.
Faith was not connected to:
1: Protection (A hedge)
2: Blessings
3: Prosperity
4: Health.
OUR faith should not be connected to these things either. We must not fit Satans mould for the christian we must fit God’s!
So if our faith is not based on these things, why do we love God? Whjy do we serve him? Why did jJob not rebel against God?
The reason Christians love and serve God is NOT in:
1: Protection (A hedge)
2: Blessings
3: Prosperity
4: Health.
The reason we love and serve God is:
Jesus Christ and what He did on the cross and in the grave.
Colossians 1:13–22 ESV
13 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. 15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. 19 For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross. 21 And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, 22 he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him,
Jesus Christ paid for my sins on the cross. He redeemed me, he rescued me, he forgave me, he set me free, he filled me with His Spirit.
He is preparing a place for me, he will come again for me.
He loves me.
John 3:16 ESV
16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
My frineds, if God gave us Jesus and nothing else we would styill worship him, still serve him, still love him.
That he gave us Jesus is enough.
Jesus is my Potection.
Jesus is my blessing
Jesus is my prosperity
Jesus is my health.
Everything can be taken away. But Satan can never take my Jesus away.
Is Jesus enough for you?
