Inconsistencies
Inconsistencies
There are inconsistencies that exist in our lives. One of which garnering focus at the moment is the health and safety of American citizens. Throughout the first 6 months of this year we have faced a pandemic and the ugly bones of racism have fallen out of the country. It wasn’t so long ago that this country was filled with Hope and a sense of change but now we face these times that are inconsistent. Not only that we don’t know if our employment is going to be consistent, whether our relationships will hold up in this time, whether our elderly and immunocompromised family will still be safe in this time! The world, the non-believers, the atheist, the agnostic, the Muslims, the Buddhist, Hindus, etc look up and do not have what we as Christians have. We serve a consistent God! Even in the midst of our worst times, God remains consistent!
How do I know?
A Psalm for giving thanks.
1 Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!
2 Serve the Lord with gladness!
Come into his presence with singing!
3 Know that the Lord, he is God!
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him; bless his name!
5 For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love endures forever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.
1 Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!
The same word used here is exactly the same as the one used as the Israelites marched around the walls of Jericho. You remember! God had promised them that they would come to possess a land that would be their own and that they would find peace and everything they needed in surplus! God told them all they had to do not was to march around the walls and SHOUT! We understand this concept when it comes to sports. Whether we cheer for our kids or our favorite sports team we shout when we are please with what our most precious athletes have done!
Are you pleased with God?
The whole earth, all the land is called to give a great shout as we are pointed towards a Psalm that evokes thanksgiving! It is reflective! It requires some form of memory of what God has done! Or did not do! (When we were in sin, of course)
2 Serve the Lord with gladness!
Come into his presence with singing!
To serve
Requires humility
To be a servant of God
One serves with joy
Do you remember your disposition before Christ?
Songs are powerful. They can express emotions, expectations, and give instruction. in different areas of your life.
Stevie Wonder/ Michael Jackson “With a Child’s Heart” (Simplicity of Life)
With a child's heart Go face the worries of the day
With a child's heart turn each problem into play
No need to worry, no need to fear, just being alive
makes it all so very clear!
That with a child's heart, nothing can ever get you down
with a child's heart, you've got no reason to frown
Love is as welcome, as a sunny sunny day!
Commodores “Zoom” (About hope)
I may be just a foolish dreamer
But I don’t care
Cause I know my happiness is waiting… Somewhere
I’m searching for that silver lining
Horizons that I’ve never seen
Oh I’d like to take just a moment
And dream my dream
Oh dream my dream
Marvin Gaye “What’s Going On” (A song in the midst of trials)
Mother, mother
There's too many of you crying
Brother, brother, brother
There's far too many of you dying
You know we've got to find a way
To bring some lovin' here today, eh eh
Father, father
We don't need to escalate
You see, war is not the answer
For only love can conquer hate
You know we've got to find a way
To bring some lovin' here today, oh oh oh
When I think about where I was and where he brought me to… I have a song to sing!
When I think about the world around me… I want to sing a song of his faithfulness as I continue to serve him!
3 Know that the Lord, he is God!
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
The next imperative is KNOW
We are his creation
He loves that which he creates! NO MATTER WHAT!
His love is a saving love
He cares for and tends to our NEEDS!
If we are his sheep, then he is our shepherd
The shepherd does not remove hazardous situations. But provides a way of safety and assurance of protection.
Also provides nursing back to health
Will come get you when you get lost!
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him; bless his name!
When we enter into the place in which we serve God our hearts are completely focused on THANKSGIVING!
We enter in with a focus on the good and not the bad.
Don’t be like Shirley yall. Shirley went to her in-laws house last year for Thanksgiving after working and the early portion of the day at work she came home and put love in effort into her family famous baked mac & cheese! But when she brought it to the in-laws house last year NOBODY touched it! She took the whole thing back home and now when she enters this year, she’s angry! She entered remembering the bad and did not focus on the good!
He is deserving of praise!
Adoration
Give thanks to him, bless His name!
..
5 For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love endures forever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.
God is good!
He has steadfast loyalty that lasts forever!
He provides stability for ALL generations!
Thanksgiving!
