What a friend we have in Jesus 2

You might remember the phrase from a popular movie a while back, “Life is like a box of chocolates…you never know what you’re going to get.” And if you have lived any number of years here on this earth than you know that that phrase is true…life is anything but predictable. Your circumstances can change with a blink of an eye, and in the process your whole world can turn upside down. Life is not always pleasant and it‘s not always what you want it to be…you never know which way the wind will blow and what storm it will bring with it.

Often these disturbing storms interrupt our peaceful lives. It may be an unexpected shower, like a cutting remark that wounds are feelings. Or it may be a brutal Hurricane that tears through your world, the loss of a loved one, or a pink slip from your boss.

 In life, no matter what the forecast there is always a chance for rain.

Now how we react to those unpredictable disturbances will either make or break us in our Christian life.

              I.      Every Person Experiences Storms, even if they have Jesus in their boat.

a.        Jesus does not exempt us from storms

b.       Matt 5:45 says, “… for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.”

c.        Scott Pecks book entitled “Roads less traveled” was on the best sellers list longer than any other book…its first line reads, “Life is difficult”

            II.      Storms often come unexpectedly.

a.        There is no right time for a storm.  They come when we least expect them.

b.       It makes no difference how prepared you are

c.        These men knew of barometric pressure, they were experts. They thought they had it all under control.

d.       Many of us get comfortable with our own capabilities and intellect that when the storms do hit we are confused and miserable

         III.      Jesus will accompany us through the storm, even though at times it may seem that He is unconcerned.

a.        These disciples did something that many of us do.  When things got too hard for them to handle then they asked for help from Jesus.

b.       Jesus was sleep, the ship was rocking.

c.        No storm is big enough to disturb Jesus.

d.       It may seem he doesn’t care but he is concerned.
