I did this book would would be empty if it wasn't for your inspiration not just riding through a pin but riding through hearts and lives and experiences riding through history riding through languages and in regions and circumstances. I'm in your Holy Spirit you Holy Spirit. You still did this book? And all that's left for us to do is to Proclaim its contents. But even though you buy your inspiration pens them they are still nothing if you do not speak them.

to please God If you will speak through me if you have to speak around me, but please speak and give us two ears to hear and your powerful and holy and very precious name. We pray all men are men. So we are continuing in our Series in 1st John 1st things 1st John written by. John the son of Zebedee author of the fourth gospel and author of the book of Revelation. John describes himself in the Gospel of John as the disciple whom Jesus loved and this is the disciple writing to encourage the church. It's a letter from the Beloved disciple to beloved disciples. And and that alone is a powerful point. It's a powerful truth that I need to take just a moment talking about in minutes is specifically to us here at Live Oaks Bible Church. The John is writing to us as a disciple. He's riding to disciples. He's running to disciples. He understands that this letter is 4 disciples. This letter is is not for. anyone Is 4 disciples? What is our charge as a church that Jesus gave us? It's a commission It's the Great Commission to go and make disciples.

I don't make believers. The church doesn't make Believers. We can't that's God's job. We make Believers the words of the shepherd gather the Sheep. This is the Sheepfold and we are to make disciples we are to to grow together be trained together be disciplined together. It's the same route disciple discipline same route. We like the word disciple because that reminds us of like pretty cool dudes who messed up a lot and fished and we can that's nice. That's a nice thought. We don't like the word discipline because we all have been disciplined in one setting or another and it's not always Pleasant so they wouldn't know disciple. Yay. It means the same thing. We are here to declare and say that we desire to be disciplined by Jesus. We are to be Disciples of Jesus. So if you do not intend on being a disciple. Then this church is not for you.

That's not very secret sensitive.

But but it is what we have. It's what we're given. You might you might think you have a better plan. But you don't you don't have a church Jesus Does. His church. We are called to be disciples.

We're not playing around tinkering with the edges of life trying to generally make your lives better.

Would you not care to Simply help your ship make small course correction? We do not spend all of this time expend all of this effort and all of this money just to Simply make you feel better about your life. Why is Live Oak Bible Church here we exist to glorify God. by making disciples of Jesus Christ if you have no interest in being a disciple. In this church is not for you.

If I can be a little more honest. If you have no interest in growing as a disciple of Jesus. His church is not for you.

forget about Live Oaks Bible Church If you have no interest in being Christ's disciple then no matter what name is on the sign no matter what bit of property no matter what building it is.

The Church of Jesus Christ is not the place for you. The church is 4 disciples. But if you let me be even more honest with you. If you have no real idea of how good a disciple of Jesus you actually are. But you just know that you want to know Jesus and his word better in more deeply walk more closely with him honor him more greatly. She got more glorified in your life and family. Will you have found a family here? Here are your brothers and sisters because this church. prayerfully

will be led by a man who feels exactly the same way.

I don't know how good a disciple I am.

But I know what kind of disciple I want to be.

So what we say here is Come Grow With US. Just come grow with us.

the letter of First John written by the Beloved disciple for beloved disciples is crazy. It is awesome, and it's easy to follow and it's hard to follow. So I love it. right 1st John. I was trying to I was trying to do to paint a good word picture trying to turn it turn it. What could I do? It's it's a shotgun in a centrifuge the trews a 1st, John just keep spinning around it. It goes in all different directions and it comes back to the same place over and over and over again. John is anchored to core Central truths. And if you don't feel as though you need to be anchored right now.

If you don't feel like the ground is just like what what I didn't what that's the way I've been feeling.

So what's anchor ourselves to these truths that John is so clearly anchored to and we spin around and around and keep going back to the same idea.

We keep going back to how John begins. John 1. We read it last week 1 through 4 that which was from the beginning which we have heard which we have seen with our eyes which we looked upon and have touched with our hands concerning the word of life. The life was made manifest and we have seen it seen him. Testify to it testify to him and Proclaim to you the eternal life which was with the father and was made manifest to us. That's that which we have seen and heard we Proclaim also to you so that you two may have fellowship with us and indeed our fellowship is with the father and with his son Jesus Christ, and we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete last week. I said, why don't we hear a call to Joy?

I I I was I was I was I was a dodgy pasture last week and it even worse administrator and I completely forgot to send out any kind of announcement about workday being rescheduled. I think I mentioned it in passing last week from from this little a little but I didn't gurus all the everything you got to keep that information front of people if you can't over-communicate blah blah blah. A conference one. I didn't send out anything. Yesterday morning. I mean I would do this and I do a little bit of that and I just got to spin around like, you know Apostle John with a paintbrush in and just keep doing stuff. I couldn't stop the work being done and you know what? I felt all yesterday was just Joy. That's what I saw from everybody. That's what was bouncing off everybody. I mean, I don't know. Maybe I read it wrong. But what I was seeing was just this amazing Joi. Fellowship of joy

Lights in a piece in of life, like it's a ground upon which I was standing yesterday felt very firm to me.

That's just his church. Just being his church. I mean, look at our fancy is not fancy, but it's radiant. There's a fellowship here. The fellowship with John is proclaiming it's a fellowship of people that just know Jesus to know. Jesus is to love him and to love him is to have life. They have life in him is to have joy not Joyce cannot be contained. I must Proclaim him. We must Proclaim him sweet. We have no other choice. We want everyone to have the same joy. We are proclaiming this. so that my joy so that our joy

would be complete and it's not going to be complete until all the shepherd's disciples are safely. Joyfully in the fold. Any continuous starting in first 5 John 1 verse John 1.

This is the message. We have heard from him and Proclaim to you. Also because I'm a bad administrator. I might have told Tom John 1 and not 1st John 1. We working on that. Okay good, just so we're clear the Lord will never stop humbling me.

1st John 1:5 through 10 says this this is the message we have heard from him and Proclaim to you that God is light. And in him is no Darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, and if you don't have the DC Talk playing song playing in your head right now, you did not grow up in the 90s. Sorry. But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another. I want to be in the line. I just I can't help it. It's boys. If we say we have no sin we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us if we confess our sins. He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. This is the message we have heard from him. And Proclaim to you that God is light and in him there is no Darkness at all. The last week John said that that Jesus was from the beginning that Jesus is God that Jesus is life that Jesus is joy, and he's already circling back to a truth upon which he has already of which he's already proclaimed. He's already Circle back. How has he already circled back. He says that God is light that Jesus is light. He's already circled back to Genesis 1:1 truth proclaimed in Genesis 1:1. We read him last week. We have to read them again this week. Genesis 1:1 in the beginning God created the heavens and the Earth the Earth was without form and void and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. And God said let there be light and there was light and God saw that the light was good and God separated the light God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light day and the Darkness he called night and there was evening and there was morning the first day. God created light itself. God created light inevitably, you know, some some smarty pants will say a Bible guy. If God created light on the first day, but didn't create the Sun to the fourth day. I mean clearly clearly clearly clearly. We are all one salamanders.

There's Sun.

Light is the truth. The sun is just a sermon. What comes first the chicken or the egg? What comes first the preacher or the sermon what comes first creation or creator? Creation is nothing. If it is not an expression of its creator. But the work done outside inside yesterday, that's just an expression of the heart of God's people expression of God himself through the labor of God's people. What Genesis one tells us is that the first directed order of God's creation was to establish the clear line of demarcation. There is me. Says and me is light. Are there is outside of me and that is Darkness? The fundamental truth of God's creation is there is Kim light there is outside of him darkness. And that's the first thing he created.

Make no mistake. There is in me. There is outside of me.

Jesus in his Parables would sometimes end. With the wicked being cast out into what was it called the outer Darkness. separation from God and his people The outer Darkness there is light who is God and in him John says there is life in Fellowship. Enjoy and then there is outer Darkness separation from God.

That's how God begins his work of creation. with Jesus light outside of Jesus dark It's amazing in fitting that we'd first need to be in Genesis 1 and teaching first John one because went when I have preached to Genesis, it's my favorite when I preached through Genesis specifically the first three chapters of Genesis before Genesis 1:1, I read John 1:1.

In the beginning was the word that's before the Earth and the Sun there was the son. In the beginning was the word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. Did you get bored of this verse? I can pick a new church. I don't I can't do just it's too I can't I can't not. He was in the beginning with God all things were made through him. And without him was not anything made that was made in him was life. And the life was the light of men the light shines in the darkness and the Darkness has not overcome it. I can't wait to get there in a few minutes. Hold on. There was a man sent from God whose name was John John the Baptist. He came as a witness to Bear witness about the light that all might believe through him. He was not the light but came to bear witness about the light the True Light which gives light to everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world and the world was made through him yet. The world did not know him. He came to his own and his own people did not receive him. but to all who did receive who believed in his name he gave the right to become children of God. Who were born not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man but of God who gets the price?

And the word Jesus became flesh and dwelt Among Us. We have seen his glory glory as of the only son from the father full of grace and truth written word sermon. We have John the Baptist spoken word sermon. We have Jesus to Living Word sermon. That's that sermon cubed if my math is correct. That's a sermon to the third power and it's all about the True Light. God is like Jesus is the expression of the True Light.

Jesus says the beginning of creation. Your slights gives me your starcats outside of me. And then in the Incarnation, he says here I am. The light is here with you.

Back in 1st John 1:5 did I do that all through my sermons on I am just go there this I fix my there is I fixed it later.

1st John 1:5, this is the message. We have heard from him and Proclaim to you that God is light and in him there is no Darkness at all in him. There is no Darkness at all. You sat here and look at our amazing oak tree. As the light comes up and over you'll see the shadow moving. Ever gotten an early start the day so you could do your yard work on that side of the house, but you have to quit at noon. Why?

Shadow is not a representation of light. It's a representation of the shape that is blocking the light.

Shadows take the form of that which is blocking the light. You stand outside with the sun behind you. You look down on the ground. It is a shape that looks just like you.

And blocking the light. You're making this u-shaped bit of darkness in the world.

The moon has no light of its own. It merely reflects the light of the Sun. Disciples of Jesus are just satellites orbiting around creation reflecting the light of the Sun and exposing the darkness for what it is. Nothing brought to nothing in the light of the sun fleeing and defenseless Panic as the sun rises higher and higher.

1st John 1:6 if we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness we lie and do not practice the truth. If you claim to be Christ disciple God's adopted son or daughter a child of light, but you walk in darkness.

What are you showing the world? What are you preaching to the world? Have you ever experienced? Absolute dark like total darkness. Sometimes you think you have but then if you let your light to judge your eyes adjust you realize that there is a little light in your eye can see now I'll let you guess which one did you get experience absolute Darkness under a mountain or 3280 feet beneath the surface of the ocean. Which one do you think I got paid to do fun stuff and went caving and it was amazing and there's this room and the inside of the whole Cavern system. Still Raccoon Mountain, I think Tennessee and dumb. There's just covered in in the middle of this big open camera in the middle and end we turn off all of the lights a little helmet lights that we have and and we'd we sit in absolute silence and I was so dark and after 5, I think he was 5 minutes week we sent the You don't understand how dark dark is unless you experience something like that. You can take your hand and you can wave it in front of your face to try to see your hand. You think you see your hand what that is is your body your face feeling the heat of your hand and because you know very well what your hand looks like your brain painted an image of the hand as you put it, but if you don't you can't see it. There's no light to reflect reflect off the back of your eyes. It's just an amazing weirdness of of God's creation. You can think you see a hand but you but you don't absolute Darkness.

But imagine if you were with me, right and the 30 some, you know high schoolers. Imagine if you were experiencing that and in the middle of it you declare in front of everybody I can see I can see it's amazing. Oh, yeah, check me out. I'm reading I'm looking at stuff. It's great all my goodness. I love love. Love light. Don't you love like can you not see it though? Cuz I can What will we do weed immediately call you a liar because that's what you would be doing. You would be the lying. Clearly though there is no light in you or on you or reflected from you. So if we claim to have light yet word Yin and Yang Yang with Darkness we make ourselves out to be Liars.

John 3:16 verse happy verse will save us John 3:16 for God so loved the world that he gave his only son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life I'm going to keep reading for God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world. But in order that the world might be saved through him whoever believes in him is not condemned but whoever does not believe is condemned already because he has not believed in the name of the only son of God and this is the Judgment the light has come into the world and people love the darkness meaning the absence of Jesus. Jesus we liked it better before you got here. We don't want you here Jesus. People loved the darkness rather than the light because their Works were evil. Have you noticed that the world will tolerate absolutely anything and everything but the true proclamation of the true Jesus Christ of the scriptures the world will not tolerate Jesus. It don't even tolerate some worship of a guy named Jesus some Deeds of a dude named Jesus, but but it's accurate proclamation of the Heart character nature Jesus, then we shut it down. Then we can't tolerate it. Then. We can't stand it by verse 24 everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light lest. His work should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light that it may be clearly seen that his Works have been carried out and God. Believing in the light of Jesus means stepping into the light of Jesus and when you step into the light of Jesus you not only become the reflection of his light.

The reflection of his light exposes the darkness for what it is the darkness from which you came.

1st John 1:6 if we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness we lie and do not practice the truth. Remember when Jesus said the thing about on they'll come a time when you have to Worship in spirit and truth. There's a lot a lot a lot a lot of gold to be mine from that exchange that he had with the woman by the well patch but here's just let me read a couple verses and then I'll take just the one thing will take away from it today Gospel of John chapter 4 verse 23 what the hour is coming Jesus and is now here when the true worshippers will worship the father in spirit and Truth for the father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit. And those who worship Him must Worship in spirit and Truth. Out of the many implications of the truth of that statement. Here's here's the one that we can talk about today. If you claim that your faith in Jesus is real. But it's private. And is kept on the inside if you say that your faith in Jesus is real, but you just didn't eat it or wear it on your sleeve.

You're a yin. Yang a liar.

You don't wear your faith on the sleeve.

What are you wearing?

Did you give surrender to Christ? You're closed in him.

If sleeves are Jesus. You can't not wear your face in your sleep.

If your faith in Christ is real.

If you're an adopted son or daughter of God, you've been clothed in the righteousness of Jesus.

He's a shirt. He's Road. He's recovering.

Not just your magic underwear. Sorry. spirit and Truth inside and out word and deed 1st John 1:7, but if we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus. His son cleanses us from all sin. if we walk Not sit alone. Not veg out. Not sleep if we walk in the light as he is in the light if we walk in the light as he is in the life.

Do you want to walk with Jesus? Write this kind of the question that I started out here. You don't know what you don't know how good it is cycle you are but do you want to walk with him? Okay, I do. Where is he? He's in the light. Is she is the light? So where is one? In the light and if you do you'll be in the light you will be in Christ because he is the light and if you were in Christ in and I'm in Christ than you and I become we in Christ and boom yet. Again, John has circled back to the words that he heard with his own ears. Jesus prayed in John 17 again, if you're bored of John 7 to go somewhere else.

Sanctify them in the truth. Jesus says your word. He's praying to the father. Your word is truth as you sent me into the world. So I have sent them into the world in for their sake I consecrate myself that they also may be Sanctified in truth. I do not ask for these only but also for those who will believe in me that's us through their word that they may be alternate that name. They all that they may all be one just as you father are in me and I in you that they also may be in us so that the world may believe that you sent me. Again, our testimony is broken if we do not preach it together.

That they may all be one just as you father are in me and I in you that they also may be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me the glory that you have given me. I have given to them that they may be one even as we are one i in them you and me that they may become perfectly one so that the world may know that you sent me and love them even as you love me.

Back in 1st John 1:7 we walk in the light as he is in the light. We have Fellowship. I've never acted that word has become so much more important to me than I ever thought. I just I thought Fellowship was just kind of the name of the the big room where we had all the yummy meals growing up Fellowship Hall fellowship with one another and listen and the blood of Jesus. His son cleanses us from all sin. So if we're walking if we're in the light if we have Fellowship.

The blood of Jesus is son cleanses us from all sin. Now we didn't didn't we think that just believing in Jesus cleanse us from sin. Didn't know until we got to walk to fellowship and I had known Works in this like what's going on. I thought we just had to believe in Jesus to be cleanse from all sin. Absolutely. Yes, absolutely.

But guess what truly truly truly believing in Jesus inescapably means believing in Jesus means walking in the light and having fellowship with one another. That's what believing in Jesus means that the outpouring at the outward expression of that face that you claim to have is walking in the light and having fellowship with one another. I am not saying that if you place faith in Christ, but then failed to walk in the light and have fellowship with one another that your faith in. Jesus won't count not saying that I'm saying that if you aren't walking in the light and having fellowship with one another you haven't placed faith in Jesus.

Having faith in Christ means walking in the light and no one walks in the light a lot.

I was in 7th grade and having a very difficult time. I just was I and I know that everyone's troubles are it's very relative term. I have lived in amazingly blessed and Charmed Life, but my little 7th grade Southwest I was struggling. I didn't have any real close friends. I was feeling very alone. My best friend's sister's all she's all grown up and Feeling alone. I had a very real face in Jesus, but it is Sue's just just me and Jesus. Struggling in school. I had it I had a difficult time focusing in and really staying on point staying on to it was just a challenge in a math class already got moved down to sixth grade math, even though I was in seventh grade I was struggling in a little double-wide of the precious little middle school that I went to in math class. If you finished your math work early soon enough you could go to the science table and there's all these little like sciency thing for like Phil experiments to mess with play with whatever and I never got to do that. I never got I was always ran out of time to do what I did. I never never got it finished. I was wearing my favorite favorite shirt at the time which was really sharp white button-up long-sleeve white by now is a dork. But I I love I love the shirt. I don't ask me exactly why I just love this white button-up shirt. I was wearing that shirt that day. I don't know that the spirit descended upon me like Elijah outrunning a. End and I finished my math uncharacteristically quick. I finished it and it was good. So I went over to the side sick, like everybody else had an opportunity. I went over there and I started messing with some stuff and my teacher.

I went back to my desk and I just sunk in a cried.

But it was like not like Hallmark crying. It was like snotty ugly face crying. And I'm looking down at my shirt and it's just it's knotted.

And I went home and my mom could tell that I was crying. She asked me.

Never let me let me wash your shirt. She knew was my favorite shirt. She's mom she washes the shirt. Stains are still there. Washington stains are still there. How do been the Lord I don't know why she was so committed to seeing the shirt get clean, but she washed it another time and then she hung it on the clothesline.

She went out to get it in the stains work gone. the light of the Sun

She came she found me with the shirt and she said the Sun. the sun cleaned the stain

In that moment I felt restoration. I felt cleansed I felt Fellowship.

is how the Sun cleanses us we stand in his light together and we are cleansed. Somerset

1st John 1:8 if we say we have no tissues we ask someone for them.

1st John 1:8 if we and I know I'm at a time. I'm almost there 1st John 1:8. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us if we say we have no sin we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us and just one verse later John decides to loop back around. round around John 1:7 declare that Jesus cleanses us from all sin and life walking in the light is a life of allowing the sun to shine deeper and brighter into the basements and Cellars and caverns of our hearts exposing sin. And bleaching it into Oblivion. Unless of course, you're the one disciple that has no sin. Now I've been saying that we were not, you know, Yin and Yang Yang where we know we're not a mixture of Darkness and Light we are light or we are nothing. But that is not to say that we don't have any sin don't we struggle to you? I do today have now am struggling with sin. But here's the difference in Christ. You are not any longer seeing you struggle with it before you were sin itself, but Christ on the cross absorbed the Wrath. That was do you? And who you are from the inside?

And now send just cleans. Now send gifs not down on our Pure White robes given to us by Christ himself. They're just on the outside. They're not who we are. It's what we wrestle with and if we say we don't wrestle we are not a disciple. So John is saying to we wrestle absolutely we wrestle absolutely we wrestle with sin, but guess what our struggle demands that's just drag it out into the light. Let's just hang it on the line.

And let the sun deal with it.

some disciples I have learned that they can manufacture the appearance of light to fool others in order to shoplift the fellowship in Christ. They crave without paying the prices surrender to Christ that they owe.

Disciples who know how to play the game and be a part of this culture, but they are not a part of this Fellowship. Our fellowship is what it is because we are all on our knees equal before the cross asking that the light of the Cross would burn out the pain in us and we say I know there's more in there. There's more in there. I wrestle and I struggle there's more in there. Where is it? Show me where it is.

It's the difference between faults projection and true reflection. Sometimes we manufacture some light to shine. The blind people to who we really are.

China flashlight in your face, and you're not you're blinded you can't see. Projection is to keep from being revealed. What is true about you reflection is to reveal. What is true about Jesus? We are either reflecting light or walking in darkness.

1st John 1:9 if we confess our sins. He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

We're back to 1st John 1:6. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness you lie and do not practice the truth. John is telling us that we lie. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness we lie.

If that was a bit of a gut punch, we got to turn our other cheek to Jesus himself for that for the Haymaker. 1st John 1:10, if we say we have not sinned we make him a liar.

We were just making ourselves out to be Liars now. We're making him out to be a liar. How could we make Jesus a liar? Because we're moments. where reflections We have no light of her own. We are reflections or we are false. So if we are false projections of our own dark image masquerading as reflections of the True Light, we are proclaiming to the world that God isn't who he says he is. There's a lot more at stake here. Then just you.

Let's not make Jesus out to be a liar.

It doesn't and it won't just stop at your own shame, but praise God. All we have to do is confess those sins and stand in the light.
