Scripture declares that all people are equal in the sight of God, and that all are equally in need of the redemption achieved through the saving death of Jesus Christ. All believers have equal status before God, despite differences in their social standing and background.

The equality of Father and Son

Jesus Christ claims equality with God

John 5:18 NKJV

Therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God.

The apostles treat Jesus Christ as equal with God

2 Thessalonians 2:16–17 NKJV

Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace, comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work.

The equality of all people before God

God is the maker of all people, whatever their status

Proverbs 22:2 NKJV

The rich and the poor have this in common, The Lord is the maker of them all.

All people have sinned, whatever their origin or status

Romans 3:22–24 NKJV

even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,

God shows no partiality in his dealings with people

Deuteronomy 10:17 NKJV

For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality nor takes a bribe.

The gospel is proclaimed equally to all

Equality among believers

Believers must not give preferential treatment to the rich

James 2:2–4 NKJV

For if there should come into your assembly a man with gold rings, in fine apparel, and there should also come in a poor man in filthy clothes, and you pay attention to the one wearing the fine clothes and say to him, “You sit here in a good place,” and say to the poor man, “You stand there,” or, “Sit here at my footstool,” have you not shown partiality among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts?

Believers must not show favouritism

James 2:9 NKJV

but if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors.
