What makes a church healthy? Some would say having good attendance makes for a healthy church. Some might say having a good choir and nice people make a healthy church. Some will go on to say that having a strong leader makes a healthy church. But Luke in this narrative shares with us that a people who have all things in common make a healthy church.
this narrative helps us to see how God feels about a healthy church.
God gives grace to the church that displays the characteristics of a healthy church.
Let’s look at a few characteristics that made this church healthy and can make ours healthy too.
The Unity
The Unity
This church was unified.
Not some but the multitude of believers, all of them there. Those who believe in the good news about Jesus Christ and became a follower.
Were of one, that is they were a single unit. Not a number of groups or sects.
They were unified in heart and soul.
They were inwardly connected.
They all had a love for God.
They all had a sincere love for one another.
This kind of unity is the common possession of all Christians who are yielded to God and filled with the Holy Spirit.
It takes God to give you this spirit of unity.
2 Chronicles 30:12 The hand of God was also on Judah to give them one heart to do what the king and the princes commanded by the word of the Lord.
Have you allow God’s hand move you with a spirit of unity with the church?
The Unselfishness
The Unselfishness
This church lived unselfishly.
They sold personal property and donated the proceeds to help support the ministry of the church.
They did not take ownership, to the donations as to make it for their benefit alone.
They did not make known what they had given.
Example, they did not give something and then broadcast what they gave.
They did not dictate how what they gave was to be used.
They did not make their giving about them but the church.
The Sharing
The Sharing
This church shared in all things together.
They were outwardly connected.
This was a result of their inward connectedness.
When you are inwardly connected, it will show itself outwardly.
Those who made sacrifices to ensure those who were less fortunate were not without, put their money where their mouth is.
They didn’t force the unity, people volunteered to unite.
Acts 2:44 says And all who believed were together and had all things in common.
This type of unity is motivated by love and the belief that Lord’s return is near.
When the church is healthy, the preaching ministry has power!
When the church is healthy, God will give the church grace. God will give the church favor.
