We have a reason to sing.

Notes
Transcript
Welcome to the LWC live stream service, we are glad you are able to tune in to worship our God.
This morning, and every morning, we have a reason sing to the LORD.
Psalm 98:1–3 ESV
1 Oh sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things! His right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him. 2 The Lord has made known his salvation; he has revealed his righteousness in the sight of the nations. 3 He has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness to the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
Just as Israel was saved and delivered from their bondage to Egypt, so too we have been saved and delivered from our bondage to sin and death.
The Lord has done this, because of his steadfast love and faithfulness…
We have a reason to sing this morning as the recipients of the Lord’s salvation.
But it’s not just Israel, who has a reason to sing…
The Psalmist continues
Psalm 98:4–6 ESV
4 Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises! 5 Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre, with the lyre and the sound of melody! 6 With trumpets and the sound of the horn make a joyful noise before the King, the Lord!
The Psalmist instructs all the earth to sing praises to the Lord…
And again, we have all the more reason to sing this morning…
For we, the nations of the world, were once
“alienated from the commonwealth of Israel...
have now been brought near by the blood of Christ”
but the Psalmist goes on to show us that its not just the all the nations that have a reason to sing, \ the psalmist continues:
Psalm 98:7–9 ESV
7 Let the sea roar, and all that fills it; the world and those who dwell in it! 8 Let the rivers clap their hands; let the hills sing for joy together 9 before the Lord, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with equity.
All creation has a reason to sing,
for the Lord will come to judge the world with equity and righteousness.
All the brokenness that we and all creation experience… will be made right…
This is so important for all of us recognize. We don’t sing praise to God only when there are good days.
or on the days where we feel most happy and thankful
So this morning, and every morning regardless of what is headlining on the news, or regardless of the loss we experience in our life… regardless of all these things, we have a reason to sing, because the Lord has done marvelous things.
… that’s past tense…
And he will judge the world with equity…
that’s our hope in anticipating the day where his rule and reign will be established on earth as it is in heaven.
This morning we have a reason to sing,
Before we do sing,
Let’s recount together what we we believe and know,
let’s remember what the Lord has done and what he is doing as it has been summarized in the Apostle’s Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty
Maker of Heaven and Earth
And in Jesus Christ
His only Son out Lord
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
Born of the Virgin Mary
Suffered under Pontius Pilate
Was crucified, dead, and buried,
The third day he arose again from the dead
He ascended into Heaven
And is seated on the right hand of God the Father Almighty
From there He shall come to judge
The living and the dead
I believe in the Holy Spirit
The holy universal church
The communion of saints
The forgiveness of sins
The resurrection of the body
And the life everlasting
Amen
