26 As they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed it and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, “Take and eat. This is My body.”
27 Then He took the cup, and after He gave thanks, He gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you.
28 For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
29 I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.”
30 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
He Had To Be Perfect
He Had To Be Perfect
In order for Jesus to be able to offer us forgiveness, there had to be a blood sacrifice.
22 And according to the law almost everything must be cleansed with blood; without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.
But in order for the forgiveness to be complete, the sacrifice had to be perfect.
This is why God was the only one who could provide the sacrifice and that was through His son Jesus.
32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?
This is why Jesus had to die on the cross for our forgiveness.
It could not be done any other way and completely fulfill the prophecies.
What Is Forgiveness
What Is Forgiveness
The Hebrew and Greek words for forgiveness are as follows:
to cover
to pardon
to cancel
to send away
God’s forgiveness to Him is a total cancelation of all debts to Him and never to be remembered again (no records are kept).
11 She said, “No one, Lord.” Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more.”
It involves saving people from punishment that they deserve for their sins.
10 and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead—Jesus, who delivered us from the wrath to come.
It involves accepting them back in to the family of God.
20 So he arose and came to his father. “But while he was yet far away, his father saw him and was moved with compassion, and ran and embraced his neck and kissed him.
It involves freeing them from the control that sin has in their life.
13 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and has transferred us into the kingdom of His dear Son,
Forgiveness transforms the whole person and renews them to a right relationship with God the father.
How Do We Receive
How Do We Receive
We must confess that Jesus is Lord.
Repent.
38 Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Demonstrate faith
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Surrender to God.
14 For if you forgive men for their sins, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
15 But if you do not forgive men for their sins, neither will your Father forgive your sins.
We must forgive others when we surrender to God.
We must make a genuine change in our lives.
Jesus died so that we might receive this forgiveness, but we have to follow the recipe to get the cake.
