Handout
A man was marooned on a desolate island. After he had been there for five years he was found and rescued. As he climbed into the rescue boat the curious rescuers noticed three grass huts. “We thought you were alone, why are there three huts,” they asked.
The man replied, “The first hut is my home; the second is my church.”
“What about the third hut?”
“Oh, that’s the church I used to belong to!”

Have You Ever Met Anyone Who Was A Complainer?

I know you are not a complainer but have you met anyone who just complains all the time? We have all been guilty of complaining before but there are some people who seem to live a life of constant complaining.
the temperature of the church building
those who complain that I just called the building the “church” building
Illustration of the parents who went home and complained bout the services and the child says, but you got to admit, that was a pretty good show for only a dollar.
those who complain that the lesson is too long or does not have enough illustrations

Warning Against Complaining

1 Corinthians 10:5–6 NASB95
Nevertheless, with most of them God was not well-pleased; for they were laid low in the wilderness. Now these things happened as examples for us, so that we would not crave evil things as they also craved.
Paul gives a list of sins that we should NOT Be committing IF we want to be well pleasing to God
If there was someone you would not want to be well-pleased with you, who would it be?
Maybe it would be your spouse
Maybe it would be your boss
Maybe it would be your children
maybe it would be someone you look up to
Out of all the being in the world the one being that we should not want to be displeased with us is God.
this list of sins Displeases God
What group of people is Paul talking about?
1 Corinthians 10:1–3 NASB95
For I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud and all passed through the sea; and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea; and all ate the same spiritual food;
1 Corinthians 10:4–5 NASB95
and all drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them; and the rock was Christ. Nevertheless, with most of them God was not well-pleased; for they were laid low in the wilderness.
What specific types of sins is Paul describing?
1 Corinthians 10:7-11
Idolaters. We would not do that here in America today.
Sexually immoral. We are not engaged in this type of sin in America today.
Those who tried the Lord. Amen preacher, we do not test or try the Lord here in America.
Grumblers/Complainers. Preacher, now you’re meddling. God does not take that too seriously.
read the passage list
Numbers 11:1–3 NASB95
Now the people became like those who complain of adversity in the hearing of the Lord; and when the Lord heard it, His anger was kindled, and the fire of the Lord burned among them and consumed some of the outskirts of the camp. The people therefore cried out to Moses, and Moses prayed to the Lord and the fire died out. So the name of that place was called Taberah, because the fire of the Lord burned among them.
Numbers 11:4–6 NASB95
The rabble who were among them had greedy desires; and also the sons of Israel wept again and said, “Who will give us meat to eat? “We remember the fish which we used to eat free in Egypt, the cucumbers and the melons and the leeks and the onions and the garlic, but now our appetite is gone. There is nothing at all to look at except this manna.”
Numbers 11:7–9 NASB95
Now the manna was like coriander seed, and its appearance like that of bdellium. The people would go about and gather it and grind it between two millstones or beat it in the mortar, and boil it in the pot and make cakes with it; and its taste was as the taste of cakes baked with oil. When the dew fell on the camp at night, the manna would fall with it.
