Mark 1.14-20
Mark 1.14-20
It all begins with the Message of the Mission:Mark 1:15 (ESV)
15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
Calling Disciples
Calling Disciples
the Familiar Phrase- Come, Follow Me.
the Familiar Phrase- Come, Follow Me.
we have 4 men introduced.
They are Fishermen, and according to Luke Simon/Peter & Andrew they are business partners.
They are men of faith. they are formerly disciples of John the Baptist who baptized Jesus. This may have been the first meeting of Jesus and the 4 fishermen.
Peter & Andrew are fishing, working when called
James & John are done fishing, mending the nets. They are called, leaving nets, boats and their father & hired servants. (their business may have been prosperous as they had extra help.)
We have nothing more of conversations. we only have action. We have a moment of time when a Momentous decision will be make…! From this context it is as if Jesus stops only for the moment, and then continues his travel.
There are 2 connecting points of the Calling of the men and the Message of Jesus:
Repent & Believe.
These men, repented from what was their life and BELIEVED that following Jesus was the Action to do! (double calling) there is always action that accompanies belief.
To walk with… Follow= Jesus has the lead. It is the, “single file” concept…. Unlike western, of modern walking side by side.
What action accompanies your belief about Jesus? He is familiar to many. You were not at his baptism, but you have celebrated his Birth (Christmas) & Death/Resurrection (Easter). Jesus today, still comes along individual lives, in the process of living the daily life, saying— Come, Follow Me.
Is Jesus in the lead of your life?
