Character Week Three: Work Ethic

Daniel 1:8–10 NKJV

8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. 9 Now God had brought Daniel into the favor and goodwill of the chief of the eunuchs. 10 And the chief of the eunuchs said to Daniel, “I fear my lord the king, who has appointed your food and drink. For why should he see your faces looking worse than the young men who are your age? Then you would endanger my head before the king.”

God brought Daniel Favor with the chief of the eunuchs.

I noticed that it was not pity.

we said last week we said that we dint have control over everything, we can do what we the best we can with what we have.

Daniels “favor” comes from two places:

His relationship with God.

His stewardship of his talents, presentation, and willingness.

1. Being a person of Character means having a solid work ethic.

The father works

Genesis 2:2 NKJV

2 And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.

Jesus (The Son) works.

Colossians 1:29 NKJV

29 To this end I also labor, striving according to His working which works in me mightily.

The Spirit works

1 Corinthians 2:9–13 NKJV

9 But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” 10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. 13 These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

2. We are called to work

2 Thessalonians 3:10 NKJV

10 For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat.

Ecclesiastes 9:10 NKJV

10 Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going.

Proverbs 18:16 NKJV

16 A man’s gift makes room for him, And brings him before great men.

work helps us to identify God.

it creates positive stress.

it teaches us value.

3. we need to giving with what we have.

Ephesians 4:28 NKJV

28 Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need.

everything I earn or have is not for me to spend on me.

First of all, first fruits go to God.

then those who are in need.
