1 Sam 23:1-5

1 Samuel 23:1-5,1 Then they told David, saying, Behold, the Philistines fight against Keilah (kee-īʹlah) , and they rob the threshingfloors. 2 Therefore David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And the LORD said unto David, Go, and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah. 3 And David’s men said unto him, Behold, we be afraid here in Judah: how much more then if we come to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines? 4 Then David enquired of the LORD yet again. And the LORD answered him and said, Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into thine hand. 5 So David and his men went to Keilah, and fought with the Philistines, and brought away their cattle, and smote them with a great slaughter. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.

I.       David enquired of the Lord

A.    David was a man after God's own heart

1.               1 Samuel 13:14, But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the LORD hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the LORD commanded thee.

B.    David did not make a move without God's directions

1.               Twice in these verses I just read to you, David seeks God's help.

2.               As we have been talking about in the last 2 weeks, it is ok to bring the same prayer to God

C.    Christ did not do anything without talking to God the father.

1.               Matthew 26:42, He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.

2.               Christ prayed 3 times

a)               One, He enquired of God

b)               Two, even Christ prayed the same prayer over and over

D.    In verse 4 David again inquires God

1.               We can keep on inquiring of God to see what direction He wants us to go.

II.     Every time God's people inquire of the Him, things go well

A.    Only when they go of on their own do they have problems

B.    Remember King Saul?

1.               First, he did not do what God wanted him to do and God withdraw his blessings from Saul

2.               Second, Saul never really repented

3.               Saul spends the rest of his life trying to kill David

4.               Saul go as far as seeks help from fortune tellers

III.    Once God shows you what to do, do it.

A.    David always follow through with what God wanted

1.               Something else I like about David

a)               He would not kill Saul when he had the opportunity.

2.               Some commentators preach the God prepared David during the years Saul was after him.

a)               God taught David to trust in Him

b)               What is the lesson here for today?

B.    When God opens a door go through it.

a)               Many times we see a door open and spend two much time making sure, is it God's will?

b)               Two things will happen if it is not God's will

(1)             You can know from the Bible
(2)             God will close the door or open another

Conclusion:

Spent time enquiring to God for every thing in your life. (Like David & Christ)

Let God lead you through out life (like David & Christ did)
