1. Continuously remind yourself of what matters most in life.
Proverbs 22:6 NLT
Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.
Share the Gospel with your children everyday that you talk to them.
Ephesians 6:4 NLT
Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord.
2. Affirm your love.
Matthew 3:17 NLT
And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”
Be consistent in your love and showing it to your children.
3. Your success is defined by your character—not your performance.
Ecclesiastes 6:3 NLT
A man might have a hundred children and live to be very old. But if he finds no satisfaction in life and doesn’t even get a decent burial, it would have been better for him to be born dead.
The prodigal son and his father.
4. Never quit.
Psalm 78:7–8 MEV
that they might set their hope in God and not forget the works of God, but keep His commandments, and they might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that did not set their heart steadfast, and whose spirit was not faithful to God.
If you quit trusting in God then you are leading your children to not trust in God. You lead them to be stubborn and rebellious. You lead them to unfaithfulness.
Unfaithfulness to God leads to unfaithfulness in the areas of life that are most important.
Even when your children do things they shouldn’t don’t quit speaking to them, praying for them, loving them with the unconditional love of Jesus.
5. Make a commitment to your children “I'll be there for you.”
Deuteronomy 31:6 MEV
Be strong and of a good courage. Fear not, nor be afraid of them, for the Lord your God, it is He who goes with you. He will not fail you, nor forsake you.”
Hebrews 13:5 NLT
Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.”
God made a commitment to you, make that same commitment to your children.
