Colossians 3(1
Seek Heavenly Things
Colossians 3:1, If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
There are 3 things I want to share with you this morning
I. If ye then be risen with Christ
A. The word “If” is better translated “Since”
B. If we had been risen with Christ, we also died with Him
1. I trust that each of you realizes that when you got saved this happened to you
2. Romans 12:1, I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service
II. Seek those things
A. “Seek” means = “having an urgency, a desire, an ambition
B. There should be an excitement that goes with seeking spiritual things.
1. We just seen the Olympic games on TV
2. The people who ran the race or were in the swimming meets, did they run or swim with all they had?
a) They were excited to be there and they practice a lot to get there
C. We are to seek God the same way as Christians
III. Those things which are above
A. Who or what is above?
1. Christ, God and the Holy Spirit
2. Colossians 3:1, If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God
B. Vernon McGee has this illustration:
1. My classmate told me that as a boy he got on a train on the Canadian side of the falls, which is the prettiest side. He said, “When I got off the train, I could hear the roar of the falls, but I couldn’t see them. I began to move toward the sound, and I came to a big building. I went into that building, which was like a Union Station in the United States: there was the popcorn vendor, the soda pop machine, the gift shop, and candy papers, chewing gum wrappers and even chewing gum on the floor. People were sitting all around. I was really disappointed, but I could still hear the roar of the falls. Then I looked down to the end of the building, and there I saw the biggest picture I had ever seen in my life. The frame of the picture took in most of the end of that building. It was a picture of Niagara Falls. I couldn’t believe that right there at the falls they would have a picture of them. I began to walk down toward that picture, and as I drew closer to it, I began to realize that through a frame I was looking at the real, living, running Niagara Falls!”
C. When we read the Bible, we are not looking at a dead Christ or some picture of Him, but a living Christ which seats on the right hand of God the father
1. Who can hear about our broken hearts
2. Who can hear about our money problems
3. Who can answer prayers
4. Who can be right beside God to intercede for us which is says in;
a) Hebrews 8:1, Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens
b) Hebrews 7:25, Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.
Conclusion:
So here are three things to think about this morning:
- The Bible says, “If ye then be risen with Christ?”
Are you truly saved the way the Bible teaches?
- Are you really seeking God and what He wants you to?
Matthew 6:33, But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you
- Are you seeking the things of God?
Which are the things written in the Bible
These are the question you need to ask your self this morning.
I will be here to help you in any way. Just come up to me and ask.
Is it not our goal to please the God who made us and who has made the heavens and the earth?
