Compel Them To Come

Luke 14:16-23

I.       Jesus tells us about this great Banquet

A.    The Host invited many guests

B.    Everyone gave an excuse

1.     The excuses are poor ones

II.     And lets look at those who were invited

A.    Verse 16 were the Jews who professed to be saved

1.     Notices that this is within the City

B.    Verse 21 were still the Jews who did not profess to be saved

1.     This is still with in the City

2.     Publicans and sinners

C.    Verse 23 opened it up to the world

1.     This is now outside the city

2.     It is now open to the Gentles

III.    In verse 23 God uses the word compel

A.    When God went outside the city, the people know how bad off they are.

1.     It was going to be harder to get them to come

2.     Don’t we have that same problem today?

a)     I know in my life I had people tell me that they are to bad for Christ to save them

B.    God is telling us to take no excuse

1.     Come as you are

a)     You don’t have to dress up like the Jews did for the banquet

b)     Matthew 9:12, But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick

(1)   One of the problems was the Jews which were invited at first thought they did not need to go becaues they where of the seed of Abraham

c)     Luke 19:10, For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost

(1)   That is why everything open up for us

2.     Compel here means = to encourage them to come and look

a)     What do you do when you ask someone to your house for dinner and they don’t want to come or are hesitant?

b)     You tell them about the food, which is going to be served and what you plan to do after dinner, play games, go for a ride, etc.

3.     Who does the compelling?

a)     We do

C.    I want to encourage us today to go out into the highway and the hedges and compel them to come in.

1.     Don’t give up on anyone
