John 15:1-8 Series Part 5(Part 2)

We know that's exactly what happened to the judicial branch. The Greek word are the word cast out there. In the Greek is the Greek word below and it means to be thrown. It means to be or become Castaway or discarded Jesus as stress throughout this allegory that disciples must be fruitful Church. The reason for these branches to be passed out is simply this they or not bearing fruit t-shirts the wood from a Vine or branch is a soft and it's brittle and get what it's absolutely good for. Nothing has anybody ever cut down on Vine and try to use the wood from it for something is so that's why it was burned. You can't build a house with it. You can't build a canoe or a boat. There's nothing that it can be used for a men the branches that do not produce fruit or Castaway. I want to share a clip from William Barclay. He says this. But at certain times of the year, it was stipulated by law that the people were to bring would offerings to the temple to supply that fires for sacrifice, but it was also laid down that the wood of the vine must not be brought. Woo.

Because it was useless for that purpose. It was burned too quickly. The only thing that could be done with it. Save letting it lie around was to make a bonfire and destroy it quickly and you can see that picture what Jesus is talking about. Jesus warned his disciples that failing to abide means that life is failing Church a branch only has life as it is connected to the stock of the vine a disciple only has spiritual a spiritual life when they are connected to their Master. Amen. Amen. I could go on and on and on and on about that Judas branch that was cut off but I won't but here's what I want to share with you about this particular verse and I did this with the other one. See there's there's really about three three interpretations of this text and it's my job to bring those to you. I believe because I don't want you to automatically go Pastor John said, so I'd like you to rest it with a text to COK Lord. What are you trying to say to us? So when you look at scholarship, there's about 3 intro. Stations in the first few believe Castile branches ones. The ones were True Believers end up in hell for the lack of a biting and fruit. Okay, they were once disciples but not cast out right number to the second view is that the Castile branches are one who only appeared to be disciples and who never really abiding in Jesus and therefore guess what they're burned. We know what that is a picture of right? It's a picture of judgment number three, the third Busey's the Castile branches as fruitless disciples who lives wasted lives that are in effect burned up in this passage doesn't refer to eternal security. Okay, so I want to leave that there. That's a tough one. Here's the deal. This is my heart my heart is this If I'm walking with Jesus and abiding in the vine, is there going to be sometime when I'm probably not going to bite. Let's get honest. Okay. So let's just say my arm. Is this nasty branch that just hang in there? Wouldn't be a loving God for him to come and just take this Branch right off me. So it doesn't infect the rest of my body. Right because we got to remember man when this thing is just sitting there doing nothing. It's withering and if it's not taking off in Castaway, it's going to it's going to infect not only the rest of my body but it's going to infect the rest of my home. It's going to infect the church, right? And so we serve a loving Lord who is willing to do that. Amen. So even with these three or four views that I just gave you right? The emphasis here seems playing. There are no true disciples who do not abide by. Remember, Jesus is talking to disciples. He's talking to disciples the branch must remain connected to the vine or it has no life and is of no lasting good. Amen. And I know that's difficult. Jesus says listen, it's going to wither and and and they're going to cut it off. It's going to wither and they're going to burn them branches Amen in those branches are good for nothing. And by the way, praise God that he's willing to cut them off because she ready for this. I believe we all have things in our life that need to be cut off.

Jesus needs to do some cutting a man and Back II called God the map surgeon because we all need heart surgery. We all have maybe sinful habits in her life that need to be cut away mint. Welcome that bet that's scapulae men John 15 7 through 11. We're going to run I'm tapping into a couple extra versus here. Here we go. If you abide in me and my words abide in you, you will ask what you desire and it shall be done for you by this. My father is glorified that you bear much fruit. So you will be my disciples as the father loves me. I also have loved you abide in my love. If you keep my Commandments you will abide in my love just as I've kept my father Commandments in abide in his love check this out these things I have spoken to you at my joy May remain in you You guys ready for this? So check this out? Over the last few weeks we've talked about if we abide. Not only we we we bare fruit like the fruit of the spirit the fruit of repentance in our life the fruit of winning souls for Jesus Christ the fruit of Holiness and obedience the fruit of giving and serving. But we will reap amazing benefits like this. Let's check it out. Jesus just said You abide in me and my words abide in you you will ask what you desire and it shall be done for you. See I see a byproduct of me abiding in the vine. It's going to be a fruitful prayer life. My prayer life is going to get awesome. You know, why because I begin to understand and learn the heart and mind of God and that's why Jesus is saying listen, you will ask what you desire and it shall be done for you. Well, you know, why because the vine and the branches are in relationship and what you're asking for is the Father's will he's going to give you what you're asking for cuz you're right in line with his will number so when the evidence that we are not abiding. Is if we are slacking and lacking in our prayer time. And if we are not spending time in prayer, there is a good chance church that we're probably not spending time in the word of God a man. She is Jesus is simply saying that if we abide we will know the mind and heart of God as I've already shared and still again, we will pray his will and he will give us what we ask for check this out. And by the way Charles Spurgeon said this, I love it. To pray well is to study well. Despres well is to study what? Cholzo, increase your prayer time and then going to study and read the word of God and pray over the word and ask God to speak to you. And God is faithful. He will John 15:8 says in the NTSB. It says my father is glorified by this that you bear much fruit. And so prove to be my disciples but in the King James that reads like this check this out here is herein is my father glorified, they either much fruit. So you shall be my disciples so number to another benefit and blessing to God's heart is this if we abide in the vine, the father will be glorified in our lives. If we abide in the vine, not only are we going to bear fruit, but God is going to be glorified in our lives number 3. Check it out if we abide in the Vine. We are going to bed.

Number for it's all right here in the verses that we're at check it out if we abide in the Vine. You will become his disciples. You will prove to everyone that you are a true disciple of Jesus Christ. Amen. 831 says the Jesus said to those Jews who believe that him if you abide in me. It if if you abide in my word, you are my disciples indeed question. Are you a disciple of Jesus Christ or are you struggling to be? C a byproduct Church of abiding not sliding or hiding is the text says that you will be my disciples indeed. I don't know about you, but you know the Bible always interpret the Bible and so is like saying not only are going to bear fruit. But check out all these benefits that are going to come with this abiding. Peace. Check it out verse 9.

As the father loved me. I have also loved you abide in my love. Church for 5 what a benefits if you abide in the Vine Church, you will not only abide in his love. but that love one able you to love others the Greek word. There is the word agape.

I means to love others unconditionally self-sacrificial. Amen. John 15:10 moving on. This is number 6 if you keep my Commandments you all my love just as long as I have kept my father's Commandments in abide in his love church. Guess what? If we abide in him in the Bible, we will keep his Commandments. Now there's a whole lot of Commandments but the two that Jesus focus on was to love the Lord God with all your heart soul mind and strength and love your neighbor as yourself now, he gives this command after command to come in on top of the 10 and I'm not going to go there. But here's what's interesting if we abide in the vine, we're going to obey.

We're going to do the word of God a man. How about this one? Check it out, John 15:11. By the way, I've read this text many times, but I've never seen these before until this this go. These things I have spoken to you that my joy May remain in you that your joy may be made. It out church if we abide in him.

I mean, what more do you want? Hey, man, I'm reminded of Psalm 16:11. I love this this one of my favorites and you will show me the path of life. That's a promise from God to us church today. You will show me the path of Life. Check it out in your presence. Is fullness of joy scripture always interpret scripture so cool. It's like Jesus when he said that he had this song in the back of his head right at your right hand are Pleasures forevermore. and finally John 15 12 and 13 check it out. This is my commandment that you love one another as I have loved you greater. Love has no one than this then lay his life down for his friends a man. Check this out number 8 is this if we abide we will not only love God and love others, but we just like Jesus will lay our lives down for others. Now. This is a picture of Jesus going to the cross. But if we think about it Jesus taught us that we got to deny yourself pick up your cross and follow him. He says we need to we need to die to self and live to God so we can serve others. Amen. In fact, if we abide in the Vine Church, we will die to self and serve others. And finally, John 15:14. It says this. You are my friends if you do whatever I command you. Check check this out. If we move if we abide in the vine, we moved from sonship to Friendship. Isn't that we mean, we move from being a servant of Jesus Christ to being a friend of Jesus Christ. Amen. That is what the text is teaching us. Did you get the picture Jesus is called us to abide because he desires to have a love relationship that will not only produce fruit for the father's Kingdom. But proof Brothers after all Jesus's Ministry is all about others.

I have a question. Are you tired of not bearing fruit? He desired to buy. Let us pray. More thank you for John 15 in the great conviction and yet the encouragement is brought over us through the last few weeks Lord. You saw what's going on here over the last few weeks God, you know our hearts and Lord, you know, the convictions that I know that personally I've had and I talked to others they've had convictions but there's also been encouragement Lord and God we do want to be your sheep who truly abide because our desire father is your desire not his to Bear much fruit for your kingdom. So Lord as we labor through this text and we've worth the plow over and over it again. I pray Lord as we would leave here today as we would shut off the computer from listening to this sermon that Lord you would teach us how to truly a by God. I've only laid out a few ways that we can abide. But our desire her at First Community Church individually and collectively is to truly abide in the vine so that we would bear much fruit. For those of you that don't know Gary's mother was diagnosed with stomach cancer. I have not heard back, but they at that moment after the diagnosis gave her like 10 days to live. So please keep them in prayer. Please take a look around. I know that summer traveling. There's probably 6 or 8 that are traveling today. There are some that will not be coming for a season of Life. Please take a moment to look and see who's not here and reach out to them. Call him text him send him a card. Just let him know that you're that you're praying for them and you miss him. Okay?

one other thing please abide in the Vine. right I want to abide in the vine. The reason why I taught through this text is because I was extremely convicted about this probably about 2 months ago and I kept putting it off. I meet with a group group of pastors and they said what it what do you want to work on Pastor John? I Semana you know what God's just been you know. Talking to me about abiding in the Vine. Let's not that I haven't been abiding but it's more like I haven't been abiding in the way that God wants me to amen and I'm sure that many of you can identify with that. You just take a little extra time to spend with Jesus so we can bear much fruit Church a mint and number 5 Happy Father's Day. My benediction scripture is this we're going to close out. with this scripture it says blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly. North stands in the past of Sinners nor sits in the seat of the scornful but his Delight is in the law of the Lord and in his law he meditates day and night he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that brings forth fruit in its season whose least shall not with her and whatever he does will prosper the Lord bless you your mission Starts Now.
