Fill With All Knowledge
Colossians 1:9-11,9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; 10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;
I. In verse 9 God tell us to be “Fill with the knowledge”
A. All knowledge
1. The Greek word Knowledge means super knowledge
2. Paul confines this knowledge to God's will
a) This does not mean all knowing about everything
b) Just so we can do the will of God
3. Look in Proverbs 19:2, Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.
B. All Wisdom
1. The word wisdom occurs 6 time in Colossians
2. Which means “practical know-how”
a) We have teachings which is the word of God, that is knowledge
b) Than we need wisdom, how to use it, which comes from God
c) James 1:5, If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
II. Now go back to verse 10 God tells us “That ye might walk worthy” (means = of equal weight), believers are to equal the Lord’s standards, to be Holy as He is holy
A. Pleasing God
1. The aim of believers in all their worthy conduct, should be to please Him
B. Being fruitful (means = producing)
1. Being fruitful is the results of how much knowledge one has gotten.
a) The more we learn the more fruitful we become
III. Finally in verse 11 God tells us to “Strengthened with all might” (Three things here)
A. Patience
1. As we gain in the knowledge of God, what happens is it produces endurance or patience
2. Another word for this is “to persevere”
a) James 1:3, Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
b) Or to persevere.
c) When we see God work in our lives over and over again, we learn that we can trust in Him and He will work things out.
3. We don’t jump up and down because something bad has happened to us.
B. Longsuffering
1. When we are not quick to jump at something
2. God teach us when we have been done wrong, to suffer and not to jump at the other person
3. 1 Corinthians 6:7, Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another. Why do ye not rather take wrong? why do ye not rather suffer yourselves to be defrauded?
C. Joyfulness
1. Here is a key word. God is telling us that not only can we have patience and Longsuffering, as we learn God's word. We can do it with joy
2. When we go through everyday problems in our lives, we can do it with joy.
3. Then we can say “Here is another problem God can work out for us. “
