When God Get’s Quiet
When God Get’s Quiet
27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.
29 And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe.
30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.
The Lord is going away… in preparation for his departure, he gives instruction, guidance and reminders of what they had been taught...
Some of these teachers were academic only and there was no knowledge, understanding or application yet...
the tools were there, but it was idealogical only at this point - but there was coming a day that the light would come on, and the instruction and guidance would come full circle...
The Lord told of his “going away”
Now the Lord reminds and tells again of his “going away
28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.
This reviewed knowledge and information is preceeded by him telling them not to be:
Anxious
Afraid
Why?
27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Let not your heart be:
Troubled - ANXIOUS
Fearful- AFRAID
Why: vs. 27
Peace I leave with you
my Peace I give unto you...
The Bible Exposition Commentary Chapter Fourteen: Heart Trouble (John 13:36–14:31)
The world bases its peace on its resources, while God’s peace depends on relationships.
This peace is not just peace between individuals - it is a state of peace -
time of peace
time of war...
The Lord gives us peace that the world cannot take away!!!
All of these truths are wonderful, but the Lord makes a statement that I want to look at tonight...
30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.
When God Get’s Quiet
When God Get’s Quiet
Pray:
30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.
The Lord has poured himself into these men for the past 3 1/2 years...
The many disciples that had followed
the faithful &
the few who would be with him till his death...
But now, he tells them:
“Hereafter I will not talk much with you...”
the colon is used, and now we will see the explanation of the statement...
“… for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.”
The Lord would minimize the dialogue...
The communication would be less...
As we look in Chapter 15 & 16, there seemed to be a lot of communication, so this must be in comparison to what they were used to...
When God Get’s Quiet
When God Get’s Quiet
The Lord was shifting his focus...
The enemy draws near...
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
The soberness of the situation -
the enemy that he was to face -
as in Mat4 - the wilderness temptations
The devil came to devour and destroy, but was disarmed and defeated
Be Sober - clear minded - not distracted
Be vigilant - alert, awake, aware
BECAUSE...
Spiritual warfare is not a time for trivial conversations...
Seriousness of battle should cause one to stop and seek leading of the Spirit of God...
Illust:
When word went out that there was a member with covid -
Some went to prayer and support
Some jumped on social media - others started sending accusational texts…
stirring up division -
This is a teachable moment...
This is an opportunity to help us prepare for what’s coming...
teaching
training help us respond
immediately
appropriately
But when we are not prepared, we may or may not respond properly.
Do we not realize we are in a spiritual battle?
The Lord was sober, serious and silent -
when he was before his accusers
when he was before Pilate...
There are times when soberness is revealed in silence...
23 Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue Keepeth his soul from troubles.
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: And they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
2 The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: But the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.
18 There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: But the tongue of the wise is health.
20 The tongue of the just is as choice silver: The heart of the wicked is little worth.

34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
We are in a spiritual battle -
Let’s make sure we are preparing and responding in a manner that would be Christ like -
